Hundreds of poor children are sponsored for medical treatment costs.

Nearly 490 children with serious illnesses will receive treatment sponsored by the Hope Sun program in 2023, opening up opportunities for healthy living and returning to school.

Chu Diep Chi, 4 years old, from Ha Nam, is one of 487 children with cancer and serious illnesses who will receive support for treatment costs in 2023. Chi has stage two nephroblastoma, and the doctor prescribed surgery to remove the tumor and radiotherapy, high-dose chemotherapy combined with stem cell transplantation. With the cost of one transplant reaching hundreds of millions of VND, Luong Thi Phuong and her husband are financially exhausted because one person has to quit work to take care of two children, the other person works with a meager salary.

Receiving information about Chi's family situation from the Social Work Department of the National Children's Hospital, the Hope Sun program supported 100 million VND to transfuse stem cells to prevent distant metastasis. The treating doctor said that Chi's health after the transplant was stable, fortunately there were no more malignant cells. Because the tumor metastasized severely, after the stem cell transplant, the child continued to undergo surgery.

Also receiving a 100 million VND sponsorship from Hope Sun, 2-year-old Nguyen Kim Khanh Linh, from Lam Dong , successfully underwent a liver transplant from her mother. Linh suffered from congenital biliary atresia, causing biliary obstruction, cirrhosis and liver failure. "My husband and I encouraged each other to overcome this difficult period because our child was lucky to have a liver transplant," said Nguyen Quang Tai, Linh's father.

Currently, 28 stem cell and organ transplants sponsored by the Hope Sun program in 2023 are being performed mainly at the National Children's Hospital, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Hue Central Hospital, and Children's Hospital 2.

According to doctors, cost is one of the barriers to treatment for many families with children suffering from cancer and serious illnesses. To remove this barrier, the Hope Sun program last year continued to coordinate with the Social Work Department of leading hospitals in cancer and organ transplants to support disadvantaged children. More than 19 billion VND was sponsored for 487 children to access modern medical methods, along with thousands of nutritious meals, helping them improve their physical strength in the process of fighting the disease.

During the implementation process, the program received support from tens of thousands of VnExpress readers and many individuals and organizations such as MIKGroup, Mitsubishi, Novaland, Phuc Hoang An Trading and Service Joint Stock Company, Trung Thuong Auto Joint Stock Company... In particular, Sai Dong Urban Development and Investment Joint Stock Company under VinGroup/Thien Tam Fund sponsored 6 billion VND, of which nearly 1.5 billion VND supported 15 stem cell transplants.

The Sun of Hope is a joint program between the Hope Foundation and the Mr. Sun program, founded by Mr. Minh Nhan. In addition to supporting treatment, last year the units also coordinated to organize a series of events displaying paintings and a talk show about Vietnam's wishes, with the theme "Return to Childhood" with the participation of the US Ambassador to Vietnam. This is an activity to spread messages, awareness and responsibility to protect children, including children with cancer and serious illnesses. The event was held at TH School, Hanoi with the support of the Foreign Trade University, National Assembly Television, VnExpress Newspaper, Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Saigon Telecommunication Technology Joint Stock Company, KidZania Hanoi...

With the goal of lighting up the faith of children with cancer, the Hope Fund in collaboration with the Mr. Sun program launched the Hope Sun program. Another joint effort from the community is another ray of light sent to the future generation of the country. Currently, the program receives support from the Warm Love Volunteer Club.
