According to Tuoi Tre Online on September 30, in Xuan Lap commune, Thanh Hoa province, the long downpours began to stop. The remaining sudden downpours poured down on the fields and flooded residential areas in Phong My village.

On the Cau Chay River dike, many households in Xuan Lap commune had time to stretch out tarps and make tents since September 29 to avoid the rain and flood and protect their livestock.

Looking at the rushing floodwaters on the Cau Chay River, Ms. Do Thi Ba, in Phong My village, Xuan Lap commune, shared: "When the floodwaters rose suddenly, I only thought about saving the pigs, my family's great asset. On the evening of September 29, I struggled with the rapidly rising floodwaters, so I had to ask my neighbors to help rescue the pigs.

At that time, many people gathered to cut banana trees, put them together into rafts, and quickly brought the pigs up the dike to avoid the flood. Fortunately, both people and pigs were safe.

Mr. Ho Trung Dung, also in Phong My village, Xuan Lap commune, recounted: "At around 3 a.m. on September 30, the river water started to rise very quickly, flooding into the house, leaving us unable to react. At that time, everyone in the family only had time to bring some personal belongings. The refrigerator, washing machine, and TV in the house were all flooded and at risk of being damaged."

According to the elderly in Phong My village, this village is located on the outskirts of the Cau Chay river dike and is flooded every year because of the large amount of water flowing from upstream during the rainy season.

However, every year the flood only inundates the village's fields, creating alluvial soil for fertile land.

There were years when the floods were bigger, but they only flooded the roads in the village, or inundated some houses located in low-lying areas.

But this year the flood water came very quickly, causing flooding everywhere, leaving people unable to move their belongings and property to safety.

Due to the rapid rise of flood water, the water level is almost at the roof, people in Phong My village have to use homemade boats and rafts to get around.

Heavy rains and floods have inundated many residential areas and public works, including the Phong My Village Cultural House, which is deeply submerged in water.

On September 30, speaking with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Ha Dinh Cuong - Chairman of the People's Committee of Xuan Lap commune - said that the rising water level of Cau Chay river over the past day has flooded the houses of nearly 200 households in Phong My village outside the dike.

The floods have also submerged nearly 259 hectares of winter crops of farmers, posing a risk of great damage.

"When the floodwaters rose, people in Phong My village proactively went to their relatives' houses, went to the second floor of their homes, or went up to the dike to take shelter from the flood.

The People's Committee of the commune always sends functional forces ready to support people in evacuating people and property to avoid floods to ensure safety.

In addition, the commune government has also prepared enough drinking water and instant noodles to provide to people taking refuge from floods when needed.

On the afternoon of September 30, the water level of Cau Chay River was receding rapidly. "The People's Committee of Xuan Lap Commune has planned to send forces to support people in overcoming the consequences of the flood, stabilizing their lives and production" - Mr. Ha Dinh Cuong added.
