Change your Gmail password immediately

(Dan Tri) - With more than 2.5 billion active users worldwide, Google's Gmail application is always a lucrative target for hackers.

Last month, Google warned that attackers were increasing their phishing and credential-stealing methods. Now, the company is back with a warning: Users should change their Gmail account passwords immediately.

Google said hackers impersonated Google support to call and email users' accounts, tricking them into clicking a link that led to a fake site.

The user will then be asked to fill in personal information on that page such as password, social security number, etc. This sensitive information will be collected by hackers and used to steal accounts.

Despite the risk of passwords being stolen, guessed, or forgotten, 64% of users still don't change their passwords regularly. The company recommends that Gmail users change their passwords immediately, especially if they haven't done so this year.

Experts say that for added security, Gmail users should use a standalone password manager instead of a browser like Chrome. After changing their password, users should set up two-factor authentication using an app that generates one-time codes.
