According to the Russian Investigative Committee, authorities have opened an investigation into terrorist attacks, illegal purchase, storage, transportation and use of weapons in Dagestan.
“ According to preliminary data, 15 Russian security service personnel and four civilians were killed in a terrorist attack in Dagestan, including an Orthodox priest ,” the Russian Investigative Committee announced, stressing that five gunmen were killed.

Russian officials said that in addition to the 19 people killed, 46 others were injured in the terrorist attack in Dagestan.
The Russian Investigative Committee has not yet released the identities of the five gunmen responsible for the horrific incident in Dagestan. However, RIA Novosti, citing local security sources, said that two sons of Magomed Omarov, head of the Sergokala district in Dagestan, participated in the terrorist attack on the night of June 23. Both were killed and Mr. Omarov was also arrested. The motive for the attack by this group is currently unknown.
The head of the Republic of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, asserted that foreign forces were involved in preparing the series of terrorist attacks and declared it an attempt to divide the unity of the Dagestan people.
Attacks on Jewish and Orthodox religious sites in Dagestan are raising concerns that Russia could become a terrorist target for Islamist militants just months after a shooting at Moscow's Crocus theatre that killed at least 145 people.
Earlier, Russian law enforcement agencies said that the perpetrators of the attacks in Dagestan were members of an “international terrorist organization”. Authorities did not disclose further details or evidence for this assertion.
