
The event gathered more than 100 domestic and international delegates from 7 countries, including nearly 30 mayors and representatives of member cities, heritage experts and 50 high school students of Hue participating in the "Golden Bell" Contest to learn about World Heritage.
The conference is considered an important forum to promote cooperation and share experiences among heritage cities in the region, while affirming Hue's position on the global heritage map.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh emphasized that Hue is proud to be a typical heritage city of Vietnam. Hosting the conference demonstrates Hue's commitment to contributing to the OWHC's common mission of heritage conservation associated with improving the quality of urban life.
OWHC-AP representative, Mr. Kim Sung Hag, Vice Mayor of Gyeongju City (South Korea), highly appreciated Hue's preparations and affirmed that Hue is "a living testament to the efforts to harmonize conservation and development". Mr. Hag said that OWHC-AP will continue to accompany member cities in training, sharing experiences and spreading heritage values.
The conference lasted from October 14-16 with discussions on policies, digital technology, the role of the community in heritage urban development; announcement of the host city of OWHC-AP 2027; along with cultural activities, Vietnam-Korea fashion exchange and royal art performances.
Hue hosting the 5th OWHC-AP Conference is considered an opportunity to promote the image, culture and people of Hue to international friends, affirming Hue's position as a leading heritage city in the region.
