Short journey, deep experience

In early October, two large cruise ships, Adora Mediterranea operated by Khang Huy Holiday Vietnam Travel Co., Ltd., carrying 2,500 passengers, and Star Voyager operated by Saigontourist Travel Services Co., Ltd., Da Nang branch, carrying 1,200 passengers from the Chinese market, docked at Tien Sa port, creating a bustling atmosphere in tourist areas and spots.

The cruise season in Da Nang usually starts from October of the previous year to April of the following year. Most ships arrive at the port at 8am and depart at 7-8pm the same day.

Tourists will have about 10-12 hours to visit and shop at the city's tourist attractions such as Sun World Ba Na Hills tourist area, the special national monument Ngu Hanh Son, Linh Ung Pagoda (Son Tra), Hoi An ancient town, experience cooking, experience Tra Que vegetable village, My Son sanctuary, museums, shopping at Han market, shopping centers...

In addition to the tours introduced by the cruise operator on board, visitors can choose to visit local attractions after being taken by shuttle bus from the port to the city center.

On the train to Da Nang, Michael Thompson (a Canadian tourist) expressed his impression of the warm and friendly way Da Nang welcomes tourists; the city's attractions are beautiful, especially the ancient beauty of Hoi An. He also experienced the countryside scenery with many local cultural activities such as learning to cook local dishes and enjoying and visiting vegetable villages.

Mr. Le Thien Tu, Director of VEI Tourism Company Limited, said that each cruise ship usually has a large number of passengers of many nationalities, and the needs of the passengers are different, so businesses often build different tour products for customers to choose from. The characteristic of this type of customer is that the stopover time is short, so they often prioritize famous tourist attractions; in particular, the European and American tourist markets often like to experience local culture and cuisine.

Upgrade services and infrastructure to welcome guests

As one of the businesses specializing in exploiting cruise passengers, Mr. Nguyen Dac Nam, Director of Khang Huy Holiday Vietnam Tourism Co., Ltd. said that this year's cruise season the company expects to welcome about 15-20 cruises.

According to Mr. Nam, the cruise passenger market has changed compared to before Covid-19. Before the pandemic, cruise passengers in the Chinese-speaking market exploited by the company were mainly MICE (incentive travel, resorts, seminars, conferences) guests, but now they are mainly individual and family guests.

Da Nang is considered one of the localities with many advantages to exploit cruise tourism such as daily tours (day tours) which are superior and have more depth than other localities, including cultural, historical, entertainment, experiential, culinary, ecological tourism...

“However, Da Nang port is currently a general port, serving both cargo and international tourists. Businesses hope the city will soon complete Lien Chieu port to reduce the load on Tien Sa port, creating more space for cruise ship operations. In addition, large-scale shopping centers are also needed to stimulate spending from this high-quality customer stream,” Mr. Nam suggested.

According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in the first 9 months of 2025, tourists arriving in Da Nang by sea reached 40,175, an increase of 25.4% over the same period in 2024, with 35 ships arriving at Tien Sa port. It is expected that in 2025, the city will welcome 48 ships, with more than 57,000 cruise ship passengers, an increase of 35.7% over 2024.

According to Mr. Tan Van Vuong, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, after docking at Tien Sa port, tourists will visit and experience the city's tourist attractions according to schedule.

At the APEC Sculpture Park area (2/9 Street, Hai Chau Ward), the city has arranged a pick-up and drop-off point by shuttle bus, and a tourist information desk introducing Da Nang to serve visitors. Visitors will be consulted, provided with free destination information and guided to visit famous landmarks such as the Museum of Cham Sculpture, Han Market, Cathedral (Chicken), Linh Ung Pagoda (Son Tra), My Khe Beach...

In addition, to ensure security, order, traffic safety and tourism environment, the department coordinates with relevant units to deploy support measures to ensure security, order, tourism environment, and prevent stalking and soliciting of tourists to preserve the image of Da Nang as a friendly and civilized destination.
