Indonesia fires coach Kluivert after World Cup dream shattered

Coach Patrick Kluivert has just been fired by the Indonesian Football Federation after failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

In an announcement released at noon on October 16, the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) said: "We and the national team's coaching board have officially agreed to terminate the contract with coach Patrick Kluivert ahead of schedule through a mutual agreement."

This agreement was signed between PSSI and the coaching staff, which has a 2-year contract.

According to CNN Indonesia , the decision was made after careful consideration by PSSI, especially after the failure of the "island country" team in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.

"The termination of this cooperation was made based on the consensus of both parties, taking into account the internal dynamics and strategic direction for the future development of the national team," PSSI said.

Not only Patrick Kluivert, PSSI also terminated the contracts with other coaches in the coaching staff, including Gerald Vanenburg (U23 coach) and Frank van Kempen (U20 coach). This means that the entire Dutch coaching staff will no longer lead the Indonesian national team at all levels.

PSSI expressed its gratitude for the contributions of coach Kluivert and his colleagues during nearly 12 months of work. "PSSI expressed its appreciation for the contributions of all members of the coaching staff during the past time.

In more than 10 months working with the Indonesian team, Coach Kluivert did not leave much of an impression. The former Dutch player only had 3 wins, 1 draw and 4 losses after eight official matches.

The inability to complete the goal of participating in the 2026 World Cup Finals was the direct cause of PSSI's decision to fire Patrick Kluivert.
