Foldable iPhone may disappoint

(Dan Tri) - According to The Elec, Apple may have to delay the launch of the foldable iPhone (iPhone Fold) until 2027, instead of the end of 2026 as previously rumored.

Sources in the supply chain revealed that Apple is taking longer than expected to refine issues related to the design as well as the screen hinge, so the device's launch time will be pushed back to spring 2027, the same time as the iPhone 18e.

The report added that display panel production for foldable iPhones will drop from 13 million to 9 million. The first-year production of devices will also drop to 5-7 million units.

In a report shared by analyst Jeff Pu, the foldable iPhone will have a frame made from a mixture of titanium and aluminum.

Apple is also said to continue to expand the use of titanium materials on its product lines such as the iPhone Fold and iPhone Air. Some previous rumors revealed that the foldable iPhone will be 4.5mm thin when opened. This thickness is even thinner than the iPhone Air.

According to Bloomberg , the iPhone Fold will look like two iPhone Airs placed side by side. The information is consistent with many predictions that the iPhone Air is a test version designed by Apple before creating the foldable iPhone.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple's first foldable iPhone will integrate the Touch ID fingerprint sensor into the power button on the side, instead of using an under-screen fingerprint.

The iPhone Fold is expected to have a total of four cameras, one on the inner screen, one on the outer screen, and two main cameras on the back.

The dual camera cluster on the back will have a resolution of 48MP. Experts say the second lens is likely to be an ultra-wide-angle lens, instead of a periscope lens, due to space constraints inside the folding device.

According to a report from market research firm TrendForce , the foldable iPhone will be equipped with a 7.8-inch internal screen and a 5.5-inch external screen.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the crease on the device's screen will almost disappear. Apple is said to use a special metal frame that helps disperse pressure when the screen bends, thereby minimizing the impact that causes the crease.
