Israel conducts another deadly airstrike, US vetoes ceasefire resolution, Palestine opposes, rejects all plans to establish buffer zone

The situation to resolve the conflict in the Gaza Strip continued to be deadlocked when the US vetoed a draft resolution on a ceasefire at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on November 20 while Israel continued its airstrikes.

On November 20, Xinhua news agency reported that at least 15 Palestinians were killed by Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip, including seven victims, including children, in the al-Mawasi area and eight others at Khaled bin Al-Walid school.

On the same day, the US vetoed the UN Security Council's effort to call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, saying the move would embolden the Hamas Islamist movement.

AFP news agency quoted US Ambassador to the UN Robert Wood as saying: "We have made it clear throughout the negotiations that we cannot support an unconditional ceasefire without ensuring the release of the hostages."

In response to this move, the Palestinian government condemned and said that the US's fourth veto "encourages Israel to continue its actions".

In addition, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA also reported on the same day that the country has rejected all Israeli plans to establish a buffer zone in the northern Gaza Strip and the city of Jabalia to distribute aid through a private American company and with foreign funding.

"These discussions about the so-called buffer zone are completely rejected and unacceptable plans," Nabil Abu Rudeineh, the official spokesman for the Palestinian president, said in a statement.

According to Mr. Rudeineh, this plan violates all legitimate resolutions and international law that considers the Gaza Strip an inseparable part of the occupied Palestinian territory.

Any plans regarding the future of the Gaza Strip or the distribution of aid shall be made solely through the State of Palestine and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), as well as other relevant international organizations.
