Scarcity of rooms for new students

In the 2025 enrollment season, Thai Nguyen University has nearly 24,900 quotas, an increase of about 6,000 compared to last year. Many units welcome a sharp increase in the number of new students, such as the University of Science with approximately 3,000 students, the International Faculty with the number of new students wishing to enter advanced programs doubled...

This is the main reason why the demand for rental rooms is "heating up" in many wards such as Phan Dinh Phung, Quyet Thang, Tich Luong... Another factor that also has an impact is that after the administrative boundary merger, a number of officials from the old Bac Kan province moved down to work and rent houses.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hai's family in Phu Xa 3 group, Tich Luong ward (in the area of Industrial Technical University) has just completed a 10-room dormitory. Even when the project was not yet completed, his phone continuously received pre-booking calls from students and working people. By the time it was officially put into use, all the rooms were quickly filled.

Many parents also shared that they had to struggle to find a room for their children. Ms. Le Thi Lan in Lang Son province, whose child was admitted to the Pedagogical University, said: I had researched online beforehand, but when I went to the actual place, many rooms did not guarantee quality. In the end, I was forced to rent an apartment at a much higher price than expected.

The dormitory system at Thai Nguyen University is almost full, only accommodating about 4,000 students, a very small number compared to the nearly 25,000 target this year.

Previously, training units of Thai Nguyen University had taken proactive measures to help admitted students have convenient accommodation. At the International Faculty, as soon as the Ministry of Education and Training opened the application registration system, the Faculty's Board of Directors directed the Youth Union and Student Association to survey and make a list of reputable boarding houses around the areas of Quyet Thang, Phan Dinh Phung, Quan Trieu wards... to introduce to new students. The Faculty also worked with the Board of Management of Thai Nguyen University Dormitory to reserve a part of the room fund for admitted students.

At the University of Science, since March, the Youth Union has actively coordinated with neighborhood groups to review the list of boarding houses, directly survey the quality of rooms and security conditions. The school even advanced nearly 200 million VND to deposit rooms to avoid the situation of students enrolling without a place to stay.

At the same time, the dormitory was renovated with electricity and water systems, and additional beds and wardrobes were added to welcome new students. Although training facilities had made preparations in advance, the current shortage of accommodation in Thai Nguyen shows that the pressure is increasing as the enrollment scale increases rapidly.

Meeting the accommodation needs of students is not only an immediate welfare issue but also a strategic investment in infrastructure, linked to the position and brand of Thai Nguyen University. When the dormitory infrastructure and student support services are invested synchronously, Thai Nguyen will truly affirm its role as a regional university, where domestic and international students can confidently study, research and stay long-term.
