"Today (November 16), the Northern Fleet's Admiral Golovko frigate, on a long-range deployment mission, passed the Strait of Gibraltar and entered the Mediterranean," the press office said in a statement.
In the Mediterranean, the crew of this missile destroyer will perform tasks as part of the Russian Navy's regular forces.
Earlier in the Atlantic, the crew practiced hunting and tracking a simulated enemy submarine, coordinating with the crew of a Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopter stationed on the ship's deck.
Sailors also practiced skills in protecting ships from enemy torpedoes while moving at sea, using computer simulations of tactical situations and destroying simulated enemy torpedo attacks.
Anti-submarine teams operate on timed schedules to detect attacking torpedoes and destroy them with interceptor weapons.
The Admiral Golovko frigate began its long-distance voyage on November 2 from the Northern Fleet’s main naval base in Severomorsk. In total, the missile frigate has traveled about 3,000 nautical miles.
