On the morning of July 27, the Vietnamese men's sepak takraw team entered the 4-a-side final match against the Japanese team within the framework of the 2025 Sepak Takraw World Championship (King's Cup).

In the final match against Japan, the coaching staff of the Vietnamese sepak takraw team continued to field their key players including Nguyen Hoang Lan, Vuong Minh Chau, Dau Van Hoang and Nguyen Van Ly. On the opposite side, the Japanese team fielded four players from the start: Sato Yuki, Yota, Ryota and Wataru.

The Japanese players started the game better, coordinating smoothly in both defense and attack. The first set was balanced in the first minutes, but from the 7th point onwards, Japan accelerated and scored consecutively. Nguyen Van Ly was the most outstanding player on the Vietnamese attack line with powerful flying hooks, but the Vietnamese team still lost 7-15 in the first set.

In the second half, the Vietnamese players showed their determination to bring the match back to balance, defending firmly and attacking powerfully. There was a time when we took the lead with a narrow gap but could not maintain the advantage.

Despite their best efforts, the Vietnamese men’s sepak takraw team could not create any surprises against a Japanese team that played very consistently and with great courage. In the end, Coach Hoang Duc Luong’s players had to accept defeat after 2 sets with scores of 7-15 and 10-15, ending the final match with a regretful runner-up position.

Previously, on the evening of July 25 in Thailand, the Vietnamese men's team created a big surprise when they defeated the host team Thailand in the semi-finals - the opponent that made us lose in the final match last year. Under the direction of coach Hoang Duc Luong, the players played with determination, winning 15-12 in the first game. The second game was tense when Thailand continuously put pressure with dangerous serves. However, the Vietnamese team maintained their determination, counterattacked effectively and won a close victory 17-15, ending the match with a score of 2-0 - an extremely valuable victory against the world's top strong opponent. This is considered a historic victory for Vietnamese sepak takraw and the silver medal in this tournament is a very commendable achievement.

With what has been shown, fans have the right to hope for a medal color change in next year's tournament, or most recently the upcoming 33rd SEA Games.

Previously, on the evening of July 26, in the final match of the women's team event of the 2025 Sepak Takraw World Championship, the Vietnamese women's Sepak Takraw team lost 0-2 to host Thailand and won the silver medal.
