In recent days, Thai Nguyen province has suffered a historic flood that has submerged more than 200,000 houses, isolating thousands of people, including the dormitory of Thai Nguyen University of Education (Thai Nguyen University of Education). This area has lost electricity, water, and lacked food, causing many students to face difficulties.

In particular, on social networks, information appeared that some students expressed their anger and concern that the school was making things difficult for the charity group, not allowing them to distribute relief food, and allowing the canteen to sell rice for 30,000 VND/meal.
"The school is flooded like a sea, students are isolated, no electricity, no water, and have to suffer from food and drink. But the dormitory prohibits the relief team from entering, while still selling rice for 30,000 VND/meal," a student shared on social media. This post quickly went viral, attracting thousands of comments. Many people expressed outrage, saying that if the incident was true, it would be an inhumane act, especially in the context of Thai Nguyen people struggling with the flood.
On the afternoon of October 10, the leaders of Thai Nguyen University of Education held a meeting to evaluate the incident and sent a report to all students and parents, signed by Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Xuan Truong, Principal of the school.
The incident was verified and clarified by Thai Nguyen University of Education. At around 10:30 a.m. on October 8, a resident walked to the dormitory, met with the management staff and expressed his wish to support some lunches for students.
Because he could not get the direction from his superiors, this employee did not dare to make a decision on his own and discussed it with the canteen service provider. Afterwards, the canteen staff made a decision on their own and responded that they would not accept these subsidized meals.
The leaders of Thai Nguyen University of Education affirmed that the above unfortunate incident arose because the cafeteria staff decided and responded by themselves, without any direction or intervention from the school. At the same time, the cafeteria temporarily only accepting cash for lunch on October 8 was done by the cafeteria staff on their own, not by the school's policy.
Since the afternoon of October 8, the school has coordinated with support units and benefactors to ensure the provision of free meals for all students in dormitories affected by storms, floods and inundation.
Thai Nguyen University of Education has not given any instructions regarding the above incident and the catering service unit commits to keeping the selling price the same as usual, with no price increase or group interests during the flood.
Request to suspend kitchen staff who refused to accept charity rice
According to Associate Professor Dr. Mai Xuan Truong, on October 8, many houses of officials and leaders were deeply flooded and lost phone signal, which led to the above mentioned negligence. The school leaders realized their responsibility and seriously learned from the experience.
The school has worked with the cafeteria to request the suspension of the staff who caused the above error and pledged not to repeat it. The school hopes to receive sympathy and understanding from all levels, sectors, parents and the whole society; committed to promptly correcting, reviewing procedures, strengthening inspection and supervision work, and not allowing similar situations to occur.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Mai Xuan Truong, during the recent floods, the school received support from many agencies, organizations, and businesses to help students overcome the difficult period. The school respectfully acknowledged the timely help of local people who brought boats and life buoys to support staff in delivering food, drinking water, and essential supplies to students.
Thai Nguyen University of Education is focusing on overcoming the consequences of floods to soon stabilize the living and studying of students in the dormitory, bringing all activities back to normal as soon as possible.
