In this competition, Huy Hoang had to face many strong opponents such as Rawat Kushagra (India), Khiew Hoe Yean (Malaysia), Xu Haibo (China), Sibirtsev Ilya (Uzbekistan) and Tanaka Shun (Japan).
However, the swimmer from Quang Binh quickly rose to the leading group, maintaining a steady speed and gradually increasing the distance.
Halfway through the 400m, Huy Hoang had left Xu Haibo behind by more than 1.6 seconds. His extensive racing experience helped him control his swimming pace, while his opponents gradually lost their breath in the final stages. Entering the last 100m, Huy Hoang had almost no competitors, finishing first with a gap of up to 3.34 seconds compared to the second-place finisher Sibirtsev Ilya.

This is Huy Hoang's second gold medal at the Asian tournament. A few days ago, he won the 1,500m freestyle with a time of 15 minutes 15 seconds 01.
Thus, Huy Hoang has made history by becoming the first Vietnamese swimmer to win two gold medals at the Asian tournament. This achievement not only affirms Huy Hoang's class in the region, but also helps him accumulate confidence and valuable experience to aim for higher goals at the 33rd SEA Games and ASIAD 2026.
Huy Hoang was born in 2000 in Quang Binh. In recent years, he has emerged as Vietnam's number one hope in swimming. He participated in the 2020 and 2024 Olympics. At the 19th Asian Games in China two years ago, Huy Hoang won a bronze medal with a time of 7 minutes 51 seconds 44 in the 800m. However, at the 2024 Olympics, he only achieved a time of 8 minutes 8 seconds 39 (ranked 28th out of 31 athletes).
