The Government Office has just issued Document No. 4091/VPCP-TH conveying the direction of Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai on upgrading the tourism development index.

Specifically, on May 27, 2024, Tien Phong Newspaper published an article "Reasons why Vietnam's tourism development index has dropped in rank".

The article reflects that according to the 2024 Global Tourism Development Capability Index report of the World Economic Forum (WEF), many Southeast Asian countries have dropped in rank, of which Vietnam dropped 3 places compared to 2021.

According to the new assessment framework, many countries in the region have dropped in rank, such as Thailand down 12 places, Singapore down 4 places, Malaysia down 2 places, Cambodia down 1 place. Indonesia and Laos maintain their rank. The Philippines increased by 1 place.

Regarding this issue, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai assigned the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Planning and Investment and relevant ministries and agencies to research, review, evaluate and clarify the reasons for the drop in Vietnam's tourism development index, have appropriate and effective solutions to upgrade the tourism development index as well as attract international tourists; and report to the Prime Minister before June 30, 2024.
