During the night of October 7 and morning of October 8, Lang Son province authorities continued to evacuate people and property in deeply flooded areas to safe areas.

In That Khe commune, one of the "flood centers" of Lang Son, many sections of water rose 1.5 - 2 meters. On the road, level 4 houses were flooded up to the roof while high-rise buildings were almost submerged up to the first floor.

According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Lam - a resident of That Khe commune, this is a low-lying area, surrounded by mountains so it often floods during heavy rains.

Last year, due to typhoon Yagi , this place was heavily flooded. Therefore, when informed by the government, from noon on October 7, his whole family moved to a higher area, about 1km away from home.

According to the leader of That Khe commune, the commune has about 4,600 households, but about 500 - 600 households in low-lying areas must be evacuated to safety.

Currently, National Highway 4A through the commune is still deeply flooded. The commune has arranged forces and means to respond, support, and handle storms, including arranging schools and cultural houses that are not flooded as temporary shelters for people.

Speaking to the press, Colonel Dam Xuan Bach - Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of the Lang Son Provincial Military Command, said that the unit had sent 200 regular soldiers and more than 400 militia soldiers along with many motorboats and life jackets to support people in flooded areas. Especially in deeply flooded and isolated areas such as Van Nham, That Khe, Trang Dinh, Tan Tien, Huu Lung...

Colonel Bach stated that with the spirit of serving the people, the forces on duty are determined to stay in the flooded areas, overcoming difficulties such as flooding, power outages, etc.

Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee Doan Thanh Son said that communes have arranged staff to work on hotlines to receive information and evacuate people in deeply flooded areas to safe locations. In particular, Tan Tien commune has evacuated hundreds of people to safe places.

Before the Bac Khe 1 hydroelectric dam failure (Tan Tien commune), he said the local government had evacuated people in the downstream area to safety.

On the morning of October 8, a working delegation from Lang Son province and Military Region 1 will inspect the Bac Khe 1 hydropower dam site to closely assess the extent of the incident and discuss a solution.

Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on the morning of October 8, Permanent Vice Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee Duong Xuan Huyen said the province has established inspection teams, directed support for evacuation, and provided necessities for people in isolated areas.

To date, the province has mobilized more than 2,500 officers, soldiers, border guards, militia and self-defense forces, and many boats, cars, excavators and vehicles to support the people. The province also requested the units managing and operating the reservoirs to deploy response and ensure safety.

Lang Son province authorities are repairing landslide areas, warning of dangerous areas, and reviewing and synthesizing the damage.

By the morning of October 8, the whole province had more than 3,000 households affected (isolated, flooded), widespread flooding in Yen Binh, Van Nham, Huu Lung, Tuan Son, Cai Kinh, That Khe, Trang Dinh, Quoc Viet...

Lang Son still has more than 150 traffic points that have been eroded and flooded, many bridges and roads are partially submerged. The initial total damage is estimated at about 150 billion VND.

The Civil Defense Command of Lang Son province said it had mobilized all armed forces, police, militia and boats to help people move. On the night of October 7 alone, more than 7,000 people from Tan Tien, That Khe and Trang Dinh communes (downstream of Bac Khe 1 hydropower dam) were urgently evacuated to safety.
