Lao Cai: Agriculture grows 4.76%/year in 5 years

In the period of 2020 - 2025, the agricultural sector of Lao Cai province continues to affirm its role as a pillar of the economy, achieving an average growth rate of 4.76%/year, higher than the national average. This result comes from the shift in thinking from agricultural production to agricultural economy, linked to the market, value chain and sustainable development.

Production efficiency has been significantly improved. Up to now, the value of products obtained per hectare of production land has reached 82 million VND, an increase of 10 million VND compared to 2020. The province is promoting the development of livestock and aquaculture in a modern direction, with many endemic products that bring high economic value such as cold-water fish, spiny soft-shell turtles, etc.

The forestry sector also recorded many positive results, with forest coverage reaching 61.5%, putting Lao Cai in the group of 5 localities with the highest forest coverage in the country.

Tea trees with an area of ​​over 16,000 hectares are one of the key products, contributing to increasing income for Lao Cai people.

In addition, large-scale specialized production areas are being clearly formed, contributing to increasing people's income. Many key crop areas are being developed in a concentrated direction such as: cinnamon 144,200 ha, fruit trees 23,831 ha, tea 16,046 ha.... In addition, promoting deep processing and developing export markets are increasing the value and competitiveness of Lao Cai agricultural products in domestic and foreign markets.

With outstanding results in the 2020 - 2025 period, Lao Cai's agricultural sector continues to affirm its key role in socio-economic development, creating a solid foundation for the locality to move towards the goal of green and sustainable development in the next period.
