Lao Cai earned 900 billion VND from tourism during the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin.

According to statistics from the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Tourism , during the recent 2024 Lunar New Year holiday, the number of domestic tourists in the province is estimated at 256,800, international visitors are estimated at 8,400 (64,200 day visitors, 201,000 overnight visitors), an increase of 4% over the same period in 2023 (255,013 visitors). The cumulative number of visitors for the year is 1,036,714.

Total revenue from tourists reached 900 billion VND, up 1% over the same period in 2023 (892 billion VND). Accumulated for the year reached 3,455 billion VND.

The number of tourists to key tourist localities such as: Sa Pa town welcomed about 112,300 visitors; Lao Cai city welcomed about 123,600 visitors; Bac Ha district welcomed about 25,000 visitors; Bao Yen district welcomed about 31,500 visitors; Bat Xat district welcomed about 12,500 visitors.

The total hotel room capacity in the province from the beginning of the holiday to the 5th day of Tet is estimated to reach about 76% (in particular, at the Sa Pa national tourist area, it reaches about 80-85%).

On the occasion of the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin in 2024, Lao Cai province has carefully prepared conditions to organize special cultural and tourism activities and events to serve the spring needs of the people and attract tourists to visit and experience such as:

On February 9, 2024 (New Year's Eve), cultural activities, art programs, sports , and folk games will take place in localities. In particular, in Bac Ha District, Lao Cai City, Van Ban, and Bao Thang, low-altitude fireworks will be organized to celebrate the Party and the New Year of the Dragon 2024.

At Sa Pa National Tourist Area, the Spring Festival to Open Heaven's Gate was held at Fansipan Cable Car Station, the Xoe Festival of the Tay ethnic group, Gau Tao of the Mong ethnic group, Put Tong and Cap Sac of the Dao ethnic group, Roong Pooc of the Giay ethnic group, the Mother Goddess Worship Practice Festival, and the Xa Pho ethnic village sweeping festival (starting from February 12 to March 11, 2024).

In Lao Cai city, the Art Program "Welcoming Spring Giap Thin 2024" will take place and incense offering will be offered at Thuong Temple on February 9, 2024 (New Year's Eve) at Dinh Le Street - Coc Leu Ward and fireworks will be set off to welcome the new year at 2 locations (Ho Chi Minh Park and Rooftop of the High-rise Mixed-Use Building - The Manor Tower Lao Cai and traditional festivals will be held (Going to the Fields Festival, Spring Festival, Thuong Temple Festival); OCOP product booth display.
