The 7th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival in 2025: Honoring rare medicinal herbs and indigenous culture

DNO - On the evening of August 1, Nam Tra My commune, along with Tra Tap, Tra Van, Tra Leng and Tra Linh communes, organized the 7th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival in 2025 with the theme "Ngoc Linh - the era of growth".

The festival aims to promote and honor the special value of the national treasure Ngoc Linh ginseng, a rare medicinal herb and the culture of the indigenous Xe Dang and Ca Dong people to the people of the country and friends around the world . Comrades in the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and the People's Committee of Da Nang City attended the festival.

The speech presented by Chairman of Nam Tra My Commune People's Committee Tran Van Man affirmed that this is an occasion to honor the special value of the national treasure Ngoc Linh ginseng, as well as an occasion to promote the potential and strengths of the city and arouse the pride and will to rise of the ethnic people in the majestic Truong Son range.

More specifically, this year's festival takes place at a historic and significant moment when the two-level local government has officially been in operation for exactly one month. This is an important milestone, marking a strong change in the organization of the apparatus, aiming to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state management activities, serving the people in the best way.

The festival features many activities such as trade, the "Soul of Ginseng" art program, the ritual of worshiping the God of Ginseng, the Ginseng Competition, the trading activities of Ngoc Linh ginseng, community tours to ginseng gardens... attracting a large number of scientists , investors, managers and tourism promotion activities and attracting investment in the medicinal herbs industry to participate and experience.

Emphasizing that Ngoc Linh ginseng is the "green gold" that nature has bestowed, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee Ho Quang Buu affirmed that the annual festival is an event of strategic importance. He said that this is not only an opportunity to honor the "treasure" of the great forest, but also a lever to promote the economy , contribute to sustainable poverty reduction and improve the lives of people in mountainous areas in particular and the whole city in general.

To realize this goal, city leaders have outlined five key tasks for local authorities and people.

The top priority is to resolutely implement the Government's major policies. Specifically, Decision No. 611/QD-TTg dated June 1, 2023 of the Prime Minister on the Program for developing Vietnamese ginseng to 2030, with a vision to 2045 and Decision No. 463/QD-TTg dated February 28, 2025 of the Prime Minister approving the Project on developing and forming a medicinal plant industry center with Ngoc Linh ginseng as the key product. Along with that, Party committees and authorities at all levels need to make efforts to successfully implement the targets set out in the Resolutions of Party Congresses at all levels.

An urgent requirement is to protect the brand and genetic resources of Ngoc Linh ginseng. City leaders require to step up propaganda so that people only grow original ginseng varieties, not to import hybrid varieties. At the same time, it is necessary to resolutely fight and denounce acts of commercial fraud and trading of counterfeit products to protect the value of Vietnamese ginseng. The planning and strict management of geographical indications of Ngoc Linh ginseng must also be tightened, combined with the effective application of Decree 183/2025/ND-CP and Decree 156/2018/ND-CP of the Government on cultivation, development, and harvesting of medicinal plants in special-use forests, protective forests, and production forests... to create conditions for ethnic minority households to grow ginseng in the planning area.

In addition, the locality needs to exploit the advantages of precious medicinal plants to develop eco-tourism, especially ginseng-related experience tours. This is also an important preparation step to coordinate with departments and branches to successfully organize the Ngoc Linh Ginseng International Festival scheduled to take place in 2026.

An equally important task is to link ginseng development with forest protection and regeneration. City leaders require enhanced management and strict protection of the forest ecological environment, ensuring the sustainable development of this "national treasure".
