The match between Liverpool and Yokohama F. Marinos took place on the evening of July 30 at Nissan Stadium, Yokohama City, Japan. This was the match that concluded the summer tour in Asia of coach Arne Slot and his team, after a 2-4 defeat to AC Milan in Hong Kong (China).

Nearly 70,000 spectators came to watch the match in Yokohama

Although it was only a friendly match, the match still attracted a large audience thanks to the appeal of the name Liverpool - the most traditional club in England. 67,032 spectators came to the stadium to watch the match, setting a new record for a football match in Japan at all levels.

In the starting lineup, new coach Arne Slot continued to give opportunities to many young faces, while also testing the rookie duo Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike. The first half ended goalless despite the game being completely tilted towards the English team.

Florian Wirtz scores on Liverpool debut

At the beginning of the second half, the home team Yokohama unexpectedly took the lead in the 55th minute with a goal from Asahi Uenaka after a sharp central combination. Not accepting the unfavorable result, Liverpool rushed forward and quickly equalized in the 62nd minute. Florian Wirtz – the blockbuster contract in the summer – had a classy move, firing a low shot from outside the penalty area into the far corner of the home team's goal.

Trey Nyoni puts Liverpool 2-1 up

In the 68th minute, young midfielder Trey Nyoni spoke up, putting Liverpool ahead 2-1. The player born in 2007 took advantage of Jeremie Frimpong's cross and tapped the ball close to the goal, leaving Yokohama's defense helpless.

16-year-old striker Rio Ngumoha scored

The more excited they played, the more the visitors scored the winning goal, 3-1, in the 87th minute. The scorer was Rio Ngumoha - a player who was only 16 years old but showed incredible bravery. After cutting the ball from midfield, Rio Ngumoha dribbled past two Yokohama defenders before finishing coolly into the near corner, beating the home team's goalkeeper.

Florian Wirtz was awarded the 'Best Player' title and a prize of 1 million yen (£5,000)

This victory not only helped Liverpool have a beautiful farewell with Asian fans, but also showed the rapid maturity of the youth and the integration ability of the new recruits.

Florian Wirtz was voted man of the match, while Rio Ngumoha continued to score strongly in the eyes of the coaching staff.

Coach Arne Slot is temporarily reassured with Liverpool's squad

Another special detail is that captain Wataru Endo – Liverpool’s Japanese midfielder – had an emotional return day when he played in his home country for the first time in the “The Kop” shirt. It was even more memorable when Yokohama rejected him during a trial in 2009.

Playing a friendly match against the K-League All Stars in South Korea, Newcastle conceded the only goal in the 36th minute from striker Kim Jin-kyu. Newcastle was without Alexander Isak and the remaining strikers were completely helpless in scoring.

Joe Willock's injury forced him to leave the field late in the match, adding to Newcastle's misery after losing 2-3 to Arsenal on July 27. Newcastle will remain in Korea to play a friendly against Tottenham on August 3.
