On October 7, many streets in Thai Nguyen were flooded above people's heads, and houses along the Cau River were flooded up to the roof in some places.

"My house is flooded up to the roof..."

According to Tuoi Tre reporters at Gia Bay Bridge (Gia Sang Ward, Thai Nguyen City), floodwaters are still pouring in. The water level of Cau River is only about an arm's length away from the bridge girder.

Many trees and belongings of people upstream were swept away by the flood and stuck at the foot of the bridge. The water swirled loudly and was very dangerous.

Authorities have put up ropes to prevent vehicles from passing through and have repeatedly reminded people not to stand at the water's edge to film or take photos.

The family of Mr. Nguyen Van Ngu (70 years old, in Linh Son ward) near Gia Bay bridge had their house flooded up to their waists. The furniture on the first floor could not be moved in time.

That same afternoon, Mr. Ngu and his children and grandchildren also tried to move some of the furniture to the second floor and prevent trees and trash from flowing into the house.

Mr. Ngu said it rained heavily all night. At around 5am, the water rose very quickly. He had to call his children and grandchildren to run to his old house, which was nearly 1km away from his current house, to get his wife and children out.

"The house is now flooded up to the roof. The TV, refrigerator, washing machine... are all submerged. It's good that we're safe here," said Mr. Ngu.

Residents in the old Dong Bam area (Linh Son ward) said that after Typhoon Yagi last year, the Cau River rose to a record high, flooding houses up to their knees. This afternoon the water was up to their thighs. Many houses did not have time to evacuate their belongings, and the damage was incalculable.
