At the age of 20, Mainoo felt frustrated with his lack of playing time under Ruben Amorim, being on the bench for the first three rounds of the Premier League.

The young English midfielder only started in the Carabao Cup, but MU surprisingly lost to League Two team - Grimsby Town.

Insiders revealed that in the final days of the summer transfer window, Mainoo asked the club to let him go on loan so he could play regularly.

Mainoo confirmed that he is still committed to the Old Trafford team for the long term. Leaving MU is to increase the chance of earning a place with the England team at the 2026 World Cup next year.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano revealed that club leaders, including co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, also blocked the deal.

Sharing on his personal Youtube channel, Romano said: "Mainoo asked to be loaned out and never wanted to leave MU permanently.

However, that was not feasible, neither for the club nor for Mainoo personally. The MU leadership firmly said no. They made an internal decision, with the participation of Sir Jim, that Mainoo could not be sold.

It was a decision made by all involved, including the board of directors, CEO, head coach and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. The stance is very clear."

However, the Italian journalist also warned: "If Mainoo plays regularly, the situation will be fine. But if he is still on the bench, I think the story will be brought up again early next year."
