Losing billions, woman continues to be scammed because she believes "lawyer Huy"

On October 2, Da Nang City Police issued a warning to people to be careful when investing and trading on virtual currency and digital currency exchanges, etc. to avoid being scammed and having their assets appropriated.

Earlier in September, Ms. LTN (40 years old, living in Da Nang) received a friend request from a strange Facebook account. This person introduced himself as a Vietnamese businessman working in Taiwan.

After talking to Ms. N. to gain trust for a while, this person invited her to invest in virtual currency through a website. The first time, Ms. N. deposited 12 million VND and withdrew 16 million VND. The second time, Ms. N. deposited 30 million VND and withdrew 58 million VND.

Seeing the easy investment, high profits and the enticement of the virtual "businessman", Ms. N. deposited 180 million VND and received a notification of a big win. However, at this time she could no longer withdraw the money.

The system continuously requested payment of personal income tax, account verification fees, etc. Due to regretting the money and being psychologically manipulated by the subjects, Ms. N. continuously transferred a total of more than 3 billion VND to the subjects.

Not stopping there, the subjects in the group also used a Facebook account named "Lawyer Huy" to approach Ms. N. and introduced themselves as having connections to help her get back the money she lost.

The subject asked Ms. N. to pay the application fees, investigation fees... Due to panic and lack of knowledge, Ms. N. continued to be scammed out of another 400 million VND.

According to Da Nang Police, this case shows that scammers often proactively approach victims to introduce and advertise websites and virtual currency exchanges. The approach is also very diverse, from online advertising or pretending to be a businessman, chatting romantically for a long time.

The subjects also always act as investors and find many ways to avoid meeting the victims.

The Department of Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention of Da Nang Police recommends that people be vigilant when investing and trading on virtual currency and digital currency exchanges. They need to carefully research information about the exchange before investing.

People also need to be vigilant when communicating with strangers on social networks, absolutely do not share personal information, and follow instructions without accurately determining the identity and background of that person.

It is best to only invest in legitimate exchanges that have been licensed by the state management agency. If a case of fraud is discovered, people should immediately report it to the police.
