On the social network Truth Social, Mr. Trump stated: "On January 20, 2025, in one of my first many executive orders, I will sign the necessary documents to impose a 25% tax on all products from Mexico and Canada imported into the United States, as well as their unreasonable open border policy."

Mr. Trump said the tariffs would remain in place until Mexico and Canada crack down on drugs, especially fentanyl, and illegal border crossings.

Regarding China, the US President-elect accused Beijing of not doing enough to stop the flow of illegal drugs across the Mexican border into the United States.

"Until they do, we will be imposing a 10% tariff on China, on top of any additional tariffs," he said.

Previously, Mr. Trump pledged to end most-favored-nation trade status with China and impose tariffs on imports from China of over 60% - much higher than the tax rate applied during his first term.
