The meteorological agency said that today, in the area from Ha Tinh to Quang Tri, there will still be moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain with total rainfall from 40-80mm, in some places over 150mm. From tonight, the rain will tend to decrease gradually.
However, from today until the morning of November 2, heavy rain will move into the area from Thua Thien Hue to Binh Dinh, with total rainfall from 100-200mm, some places over 350mm. Phu Yen, Kon Tum and Gia Lai areas will also have very heavy rain but the rainfall is lower with 50-100mm, some places over 150mm.
In addition, today and tonight, in Khanh Hoa area, other places in the Central Highlands and the South, there will be showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall of 20-40mm, in some places over 70mm.
The meteorological agency said that in the coming hours, the above provinces will continue to have rain, with the following accumulated rainfall: from Ha Tinh to Thua Thien Hue from 20-50mm, some places over 90mm; from Quang Nam to Phu Yen from 40-60mm, some places over 100mm. Soil moisture models show that some areas in these provinces are nearly saturated (over 85%) or have reached a saturated state.
At the same time, Mr. Phung Tien Dung, Head of Hydrological Forecasting Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, also said that from today until November 2, there is a possibility of a flood on rivers from Quang Binh to Phu Yen.
"During this flood, the peak water level on rivers from Quang Binh to Quang Ngai, northern Binh Dinh, northern Phu Yen reached alert level 1-2, with some rivers above alert level 2," Mr. Dung informed.
The meteorological agency warned that the impact of heavy rains poses a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, and localized flooding in low-lying riverside areas and urban areas in provinces from Quang Binh to Phu Yen.
