The predictions of technology and finance-banking experts about the future of this industry are gradually becoming reality. Digital technology has forced banks to drastically cut staff and streamline their apparatus.

According to the financial reports of the second quarter of 2025 of 28 commercial banks announced, as of June 30, 2025, 13 banks had a decrease in the number of employees compared to December 31, 2024 and 15 banks increased their staff in the first 6 months of the year.

LPBank is the bank that has cut staff the most drastically in the first half of this year. With 9,203 employees as of June 30, the number of LPBank employees has decreased by 1,986 people in just 6 months.

Along with LPBank, VIB and Sacombank are three banks with a decrease of over 1,000 employees.

Of which, VIB reduced 1,186 employees, remaining at 10,137 people; Sacombank reduced 1,158 employees, remaining at 15,900 people.

The group of banks with the sharpest decrease in the number of employees also includes: ACB reduced by 607 people, down to 12,240 people; ABBank reduced by 469 people, down to 3,240 people; Agribank reduced by 273 people, down to 40,691 people and Vietcombank reduced by 191 people, down to 23,347 people.

VietinBank is the bank that has been most aggressive in closing transaction offices in the first half of this year. However, the number of employees of this bank has increased by 15 people compared to the beginning of the year, to 22,507 people.

However, this is the bank with the least increase in the number of employees among the 15 banks with an increase in the number of employees in the first 6 months of the year.

The bank with the highest increase in the number of employees is VPBank with 677 additional employees, reaching 15,680 people as of June 30.

BIDV recorded an increase of 606 people, up to 26,675 people. Next are MB and Techcombank, with an increase of 468 people and 329 people, respectively.

In terms of personnel size, the group of 4 state-owned commercial banks continues to lead, respectively: Agribank 40,691 people; BIDV 26,675 people; Vietcombank 23,347 people and VietinBank 22,507 people.

Among the private banking group, despite drastic staff cuts, Sacombank is still the bank with the largest number of employees, up to 15,900 people.

VPBank is the second largest private bank in terms of personnel, after Sacombank, with 15,680 people.

On the other hand, there are 6 banks with less than 3,000 employees, including: VietBank with 2,993 employees; BVBank with 2,932 employees; NCB with 2,196 employees; PGBank with 1,913 employees; Viet A Bank with 1,592 employees and Saigonbank with 1,460 employees.
