Increasing the value of agricultural products along the chain

Building chain-linked agricultural production models is a way to help farmers increase the value of their products sustainably. At the same time, it increases the stable economic efficiency for the people. From there, it contributes to creating a value chain associated with building the brand of local products.

In Hoa An district, the chain linking production and consumption of chili products in Nuoc Hai town is proof of the effectiveness of "joining hands" and coordinating production between farmers and businesses. The family of Ms. Hoang Thi Huyen, Vo Rai hamlet, Nuoc Hai town, planted 1,800 m2 of chili peppers. Ms. Huyen said: In 2019, I participated in the model of linking production and consumption of chili products implemented by the People's Committee of Nuoc Hai town. Participating in the model, I was supported with seeds, science and technology, and especially the product was purchased by DACE Company, so I feel very secure. The family's chili area has now harvested nearly 2 quintals, with a purchase price of 23 - 25 thousand VND/kg, it is estimated that this chili crop will earn a profit of more than 40 million VND.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Nguyen Hue Commune (Hoa An) Dam Thu Thuy shared: Previously, people in the commune only grew rice, corn, and vegetables, which had low economic value, and many households left the land fallow. To promote agricultural production, the commune has promoted and mobilized people to actively change the appropriate crop structure, and arrowroot is one of the selected crops. Currently, in Nguyen Hue commune, there are more than 90.7 hectares of arrowroot with more than 300 households producing vermicelli. Thanks to loans from national target programs, production households and cooperatives have invested in machinery, built factories, increased production scale, and created jobs for local workers.

Not only localities and enterprises, but also cooperatives in the province have been more proactive in the production and business process, "joining hands" with farmers to increase the value of agricultural products. For example, Ba Sach Agricultural Cooperative, Hung Dao Commune (City) is a unit associated in purchasing and consuming agricultural products for people. To meet large orders for partners in the provinces, the Cooperative has increased its human resources to carry out the following steps: purchasing products, processing, classifying, packaging, transporting and consuming products. Currently, the Cooperative is associated with major distributors in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and some provinces to bring the province's specialty agricultural products into the supermarket system and export them abroad.

Vermicelli products of Ba Sach Agricultural Cooperative (City) are connected to supply to markets inside and outside the province.

Mr. Lai Duc Thu, Director of Ba Sach Agricultural Cooperative, said: The production linkage model of Ba Sach Cooperative supplies the market with dozens of tons of various agricultural products each month. Up to now, Ba Sach Cooperative's agricultural products are not only sold in the provincial market but also supplied to provinces and cities across the country. Currently, the Cooperative has over 30 products, of which 12 products have achieved 3-star OCOP (vermicelli, pho, sticky rice, soybeans, red peanuts), 5 products have achieved typical rural products... In 2024, the Cooperative's revenue will reach over 20 billion VND, creating jobs for over 10 workers with an average income of 5 - 6 million VND/person/month.

Identifying high-quality, unique agricultural products as a strength for people in the province to increase their income, the province has implemented many solutions to develop the economy and improve people's lives. In particular, focusing on developing linkage models and consuming agricultural products of the people. Many linkage models have been formed, gradually affirming an effective direction for the province's agricultural economy. In the province, a number of commodity agricultural production areas have been formed with relatively clear linkages, such as: Tobacco areas in Hoa An, Ha Quang, Trung Khanh; raw sugarcane areas in Quang Hoa, Thach An, Ha Lang; bamboo pole areas in Nguyen Binh, Bao Lac..., bringing benefits to the participating parties, helping to reduce input costs, ensure output, and build the brand of local agricultural products.

In particular, the province concretizes the major policies of the Party and the State through encouraging the linkage of production and consumption of agricultural products, developing cooperatives, building concentrated production... to meet the practical requirements of life, including concretizing Decree No. 98/2018/ND-CP of the Government on encouraging the development of cooperation and linkage in production and consumption of agricultural products, in which all partners benefit, directly farmers. Directing localities to promote the diversification of linkages between people, businesses, and cooperatives in the production and consumption of agricultural products, forming a value chain of agricultural products, paying special attention to and supporting direct linkages between businesses and people. Focusing resources on integrating capital sources, prioritizing career capital sources of national target programs to promote linkages in agricultural production associated with the unique and key products of each locality; Building raw material areas for enterprises, agricultural cooperatives, raw material areas serving OCOP products, linked with agricultural tourism. When participating in linkages in production and consumption of agricultural products, the state will support the construction of infrastructure systems, technical training, capital for farmers and enterprises, increase productivity, quality and agricultural products of farmers, and improve living standards.

Consumers choose agricultural products produced according to value chains that ensure clean and safe agricultural quality.

Head of the Rural Development Department Nong Chi Kien said: Implementing production development support activities under 3 national target programs, in 2024, the Rural Development Department organized 7 inspections to monitor production development support activities in the districts: Thach An, Ha Lang, Quang Hoa, Trung Khanh, Hoa An, Ha Quang, City. From the capital sources of the national target program on new rural construction, sustainable poverty reduction, socio-economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, the province has supported over 566 billion VND to implement 559 projects/plans to support production. Of which, there are 56 plans to support the development of production linked to the value chain, 503 projects to support community development. Through the support capital sources, the districts and cities actively implemented to improve productivity and quality, many types of crops and livestock were raised, and many effective production models were built and replicated; Linking, producing and consuming products between farmers and businesses and cooperatives facilitates the consumption of agricultural products and the effective application of science and technology in agricultural production.

The value chain linkage model creates conditions for farmers to develop concentrated commodity production areas to create high-quality agricultural products in the direction of commodities, initially creating a brand that customers come to buy, especially OCOP products. Thanks to that, productivity, quality and value of agricultural products are increasingly improved, and the activities of cooperatives are also increased. Up to now, the whole province has 25 agricultural cooperatives recognized for 48 OCOP products, 7 cooperatives recognized for 7 OCOP products with many diverse products such as: Cao Bang vermicelli, shiitake mushrooms, fragrant pumpkin, pure corn wine, Doong Pan tea, Pi Pat sticky rice...
