Department of Agriculture and Environment: Checking the current status and operation of some waste treatment sites

Leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment inspected the Khuoi Kep - Na Lan waste treatment site (Tan Giang ward).

Khuoi Kep - Na Lan waste treatment site has a total investment of nearly 43 billion VND, divided into 2 phases. The designed landfill capacity is about 45 tons/day. However, currently, it is treating about 65 - 70 tons/day of waste. This waste treatment site is being managed, used and operated by the Investment, Development and Environment Company Limited, which treats domestic solid waste by manual burial method in the entire area of 3 wards: Thuc Phan, Tan Giang, and Nung Tri Cao. The landfill cells have buried about 80% - 85% of the designed capacity. If not renovated, upgraded, changed the waste treatment plan, and the landfill volume is reduced, it will lead to overload and will not be able to receive more waste in the near future.

Hoa An Commune Waste Landfill was invested in construction, renovation and upgrading since 2014. By 2017, it continued to be put into use with an area of about 1.5 hectares; designed treatment capacity of about 6 tons/day. Currently, the waste landfill is full and is being dumped on the surface.
Through inspection, the working group assessed: With the increasingly strong economic growth, people's lives increase, along with that the amount of daily household waste discharged into the environment also increases very quickly. The whole province currently has 16 facilities for treating domestic solid waste in communes and wards with 5 incinerators and landfills. However, all use manual landfill methods.

Immediately after the inspection, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the province will synthesize and report the results to the Provincial People's Committee. Advise and propose solutions to overcome both short-term and long-term difficulties, improve the efficiency of management, operation, and treatment of domestic solid waste, ensuring environmental sanitation in the area. Continue to promote propaganda and mobilize people to classify waste at source; promote reuse, recycling and fight against plastic waste to minimize emissions into the environment.
