On August 14, the Vietnam Tourism Association (VITA) held a seminar on "Elevating the value of the green tourism brand VITA Green to become an international trading brand", discussing solutions to elevate the green tourism brand to a global level.

Green trends in tourism

According to Chairman of the Vietnam Tourism Association Vu The Binh, green tourism is a world trend and is also the direction that the Vietnamese tourism industry has identified in its sustainable development goals.

"International tourists are very fond of tourism that is close to nature and reduces emissions to the environment. Therefore, Vietnam tourism needs to promote green tourism development to enhance the global brand value and effectively attract high-end tourists," said Mr. Binh.

Since 2019, activities to promote and develop green tourism have been launched by the Vietnam Tourism Association. The Association has also developed green tourism criteria and is beginning to implement them.

Currently, 30 businesses have been granted green tourism label certificates, and it is expected that by the end of the year there will be about 100 businesses.

Chairman of the Tuyen Quang Tourism Association Lai Quoc Tinh said that currently, the old Ha Giang and the current Tuyen Quang have only one place that has achieved the green tourism label, which is H'mong Village.

Mr. Tinh expressed his desire to build a green journey on the rocky plateau, bringing tourists to each pristine village.

"Green tourism is not only an environmental issue but also must be sustainable and community-oriented. To do so, tourism must bring benefits and livelihoods to ethnic communities based on honoring and preserving indigenous cultural identity," said Mr. Tinh.

Green tourism is the mission

As a travel agency that always builds tourism products following green trends, Ms. Hoang Thi Huong, deputy director of Vietluxtour, believes that to build a global green tourism brand, the role of travel agencies is very important.

"Units need to prioritize designing green tours to protect the environment. Currently, we are building tours to protect sea turtles; tree planting tours, picking up trash to protect the environment; and metro tours...

We make green transitions from our own company activities. The company office does not use plastic bottles, we carry out campaigns to exchange batteries for products… to limit plastic waste," Ms. Huong shared.

At the seminar, Mr. Phung Quang Thang - Chairman of the Green Tourism Association (VITA) - informed about the draft plan to enhance the brand of green tourism in Vietnam.

Accordingly, it is necessary to build an international standard brand identity such as a unified logo and slogan with both English and Vietnamese versions; develop a network of businesses that meet VITA GREEN criteria; create a typical green tourism ecosystem in the country, taking businesses that apply the criteria well and effectively as global communication images...
