On July 14, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the reason Sweden ended its investigation into the Nord Stream gas pipeline sabotage was because Stockholm "has neither the right nor the will" to confront the US.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman pointed out that the "reason for Sweden's legal indifference" is because the US is "the main beneficiary of the attack" on the Nord Stream pipeline.

"Stockholm has no right nor intention to protest against the United States. In fact, this is an international conspiracy to cover up a serious crime," she asserted.

In early 2024, Sweden announced the end of its investigation into the September 2022 explosion that paralyzed the Nord Stream gas pipeline connecting Russia and Germany.

Swedish authorities announced the suspension of the investigation after verifying that the case did not fall under their jurisdiction.

The main purpose of the investigation launched by Stockholm is “to determine whether Swedish citizens were involved in the act and whether Swedish territory was used to carry out the act,” said Swedish state prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist.

The investigation results showed that there was no involvement from the Swedish side.

“In the current context, we can confirm that Swedish jurisdiction does not apply in this case,” Mr. Mats Ljungqvist emphasized.

Swedish prosecutor Ljungqvist noted that the investigation by German prosecutors is still ongoing. Swedish investigators have handed over Nord Stream documents to German investigators.

The explosion of the Nord Stream pipeline under the Baltic Sea occurred on September 27, 2022, about 7 months after Russia's special military operation in Ukraine broke out. This is the main route supplying Russian gas to Germany, Moscow also cut off gas supply through this pipeline from August 2022.
