Cozy houses of love
In late October, returning to My Ly commune, the signs of devastation were still clear: Villages were in disarray, belongings were buried in mud, landslides along the Nam Mo riverbank. The local government and police mobilized manpower and vehicles to transport materials, level the ground, build frames, and roof for the people. In just over a month, a series of charity houses supported by the Ministry of Public Security were completed, providing cozy housing for households that had lost everything.

Mr. Luong Van Pang in Xop Tu village, My Ly commune, along with his wife and grandchildren, could not hide their emotions. He recounted that the flood came that day, the water rose so quickly that the whole family could only escape with a few belongings, while the wooden stilt house - the property they had saved all their lives - was completely swept away. Many days later, the family had to build a small temporary hut to live in. Now, when they are living in a new house, although not spacious, it is solid and cozy.
Nearby is the new house of Mr. Kha Van Binh, also in Xop Tu village, which has just been put into use. Mr. Binh shared: “Our house and property were all swept away by the flood, and we thought we would have to live under the open sky and on the ground. I never expected that the Ministry of Public Security would support us to build a house, and I never dreamed that we would have a solid roof so soon. Now that we have a place to shelter from the sun and rain, my family can rest assured to rebuild our lives.”

However, in My Ly commune, many households still have to build temporary houses after the flood because they have not found land to build new houses.
Mr. Lo Van Phom - Head of Xop Tu village said: The village has 182 households, of which 49 households were completely swept away by the flood and 45 households were deeply inundated. Up to now, all 49 households have registered to build gratitude houses with support from the Ministry of Public Security; of which, 11 houses have been completed, and 5 households are building temporary houses to have a place to live in for now.
According to comrade Ho Ngoc Nghi - Chief of My Ly Commune Police, the biggest difficulty at present is the seriously damaged traffic system, making it difficult to travel and transport construction materials. In this situation, the local government and the Commune Police mobilized human resources, along with the people, to transport materials, level the ground, build frames and roof houses, and at the same time, closely coordinate with the construction unit to ensure progress.

Mr. Luong Van Bay - Chairman of the People's Committee of My Ly commune said: In the recent flash flood, the whole commune had 244 houses collapsed and swept away, more than 100 other houses were deeply flooded. Up to now, 27/28 prefabricated houses supported by the Ministry of Public Security have been completed and handed over, people have moved in to live.
In addition, the commune has 105 households registered to relocate to resettlement areas according to Resolution No. 09/2024/NQ-HDND on policies to support the implementation of the program of population arrangement and stabilization in Nghe An province in the period of 2024 - 2030. Currently, the People's Committee of the commune is coordinating with functional agencies to conduct surveys and plan resettlement areas in the areas of Xieng Tam, Xang Tren, Cha Nga and Yen Hoa villages, with a total area of 4 - 5 hectares.

However, the biggest difficulty now is the resettlement site fund. The terrain of the area is mainly located along streams and creeks, so planning, leveling and infrastructure construction face many obstacles.
Continue to find land for construction, ensuring everyone has a home
In the old Tuong Duong district, the recent flash flood caused heavy damage, with many houses completely swept away. Thanks to the housing construction support from the Ministry of Public Security, many households have soon stabilized their lives.

These days, returning to Cua Rao 2 village, we can see that people here are gradually restoring their normal lives. Mrs. Dau Thi Hoi (born in 1959), residing in Cua Rao 2 village, choked up as she recounted: “My husband passed away early, and my children went to work far away. The recent flood swept away our house and all our belongings, and we thought we had nothing to hold on to. Luckily, the Ministry of Public Security supported us to rebuild a new house so we could live in peace.

Mr. Nguyen Hong Tai - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tuong Duong commune said: "During the flood, over 100 households in the commune had their houses swept away. The Ministry of Public Security has deployed 14/34 prefabricated houses, the rest are looking for suitable sites. In addition, 70 households registered for support under Resolution 09/2024/NQ-HDND of Nghe An province.
The prefabricated houses supported by the Ministry of Public Security in this phase are being built from the foundation. The advantage of prefabricated houses is that they are quick and flexible to construct, helping people to have stable housing soon after natural disasters.

However, Mr. Tai also said that the biggest difficulty now is finding suitable land to build houses for people, because local land funds are limited.
According to statistics from the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the recent storms have damaged 105,309 houses in Nghe An province. Of which, for households that have completely lost their houses, the Ministry of Public Security has supported the construction of more than 100 new houses, while nearly 500 other households are registering to build houses under the Ministry's support program or receiving support from local authorities to find suitable resettlement locations.

For households whose houses were severely damaged, had their roofs blown off or were partially damaged, the government and other functional forces mobilized human resources to support the repair, while at the same time, the people also took the initiative to repair them. To date, more than 800 houses are still being repaired and reinforced to be put into use soon.

Nghe An provincial leaders have requested authorities at all levels and relevant sectors to focus highly on supporting people to restore their homes, especially those who have completely lost their homes; at the same time, accurately assess and review the extent of damage in each locality to determine the specific number of houses that need to be rebuilt and repaired, and to minimize procedures to help people soon have stable housing.

With the strong direction of Nghe An province, and the cooperation of the Party Committee, government, and police force, people living in villages heavily affected by the flood are gradually stabilizing their new lives.
