'Retired for a long time so I think the law is outdated'

On the morning of April 11, the first-instance trial continued in the case of buying and selling invoices, giving and receiving bribes, and fraudulent appropriation of property involving former Hai Phong Police Director Do Huu Ca, Truong Xuan Duoc and his wife, and accomplices.

Former Major General and Director of Hai Phong Police pleaded guilty

At the beginning of the second working day of the first instance trial, the defendant Do Huu Ca's lawyer asked the presiding judge for permission to re-record the questioning session.

Invited to present, Mr. Do Huu Ca said in a trembling voice: "After returning to my cell, I thought a lot and realized that I had not fully understood my actions. At today's trial, I admitted that the accusations in the indictment of my wrongdoings were correct." Former Major General Do Huu Ca also presented that he had retired for a long time, thought the law was outdated, and that old age made it difficult to approach new things.

Due to poor health, the Major General was allowed by the presiding judge to sit and listen to the Quang Ninh Provincial People's Procuracy read the indictment.

"Yesterday (April 10), Ngoc Anh and I had different opinions, leading to misunderstandings. I unintentionally suggested taking money, but not to get out of jail. After thinking about it again, I realized that was not right," former General Do Huu Ca explained.

Mr. Do Huu Ca also explained that he has been retired for a long time, thinking that the law is outdated, and that old age makes it difficult to approach new things.

As Thanh Nien reported, in the first trial session, during the questioning, there was a "fierce" argument between Mr. Do Huu Ca and the couple Truong Xuan Duoc - Nguyen Thi Ngoc Anh. Accordingly, the former major general did not agree with the testimony of the "invoice boss" couple when they said that he received 35 billion to run the case. Meanwhile, Truong Xuan Duoc said that the former Director of Hai Phong Police "dare to do but did not dare to admit".
