Sorana Cirstea is currently ranked 57th in the world . A week before participating in the 2025 US Open, Cirstea won the Tennis in the Land championship in Cleveland, which was her third WTA title in her career.

For the convenience of competition, this Romanian tennis player brought this championship trophy to New York to attend the last Grand Slam tournament of the year.

In this tournament, Cirstea won 2-0 (7-5, 6-0) against Argentinean opponent Solana Sierra in the first round and then lost 1-2 (6-7, 7-6, 4-6) to Czech player Karolina Muchova in the second round.

Not only did Cirstea lose the match, she also received more bad news when her room 314 in the New York hotel was visited by a thief and the championship trophy she had just won was stolen. Cirstea said she felt very sad because this was her "priceless item".

The tennis player also took to social media to call on the thief to return the trophy to her. She wrote on Instagram: "Whoever stole my Cleveland Trophy from room 314 at The Fifty Sonesta, please return it! It has no material value, only sentimental value! I appreciate it!"

Cirstea turned professional in 2006, has played a total of 976 singles matches in her career with 550 wins and 3 WTA titles. She also reached the quarterfinals of the 2023 US Open and advanced several times in the remaining Grand Slams. Cirstea has earned more than $10 million in prize money in her career.
