Vietnamese chess won silver medal at world youth tournament

VHO - Chess player Le Phan Hoang Quan excellently brought home a silver medal for Vietnamese chess at the 2025 World Youth Chess Championship for the U8, U10, U12 age groups held in Kazakhstan.

The Vietnamese youth chess team has 6 players competing, including: Vu Thanh An (U8 male), Le Phan Hoang Quan, Nguyen Nhat Khuong (U10 male), Nguyen Quang Anh, Trinh Nguyen Lam (U12 male) and Tran Duong Hoang Ngan (U12 female).

At the tournament, the players compete in 11 standard Swiss chess games to find the champion in each group.

Le Phan Hoang Quan is the only player of the Vietnamese youth chess team to win a medal at the tournament in Kazakhstan.

In the final game of the U10 men's standard chess match, Hoang Quan went queen but still excellently defeated player Ivanovic Leonid (Serbia).

After 11 games, Hoang Quan won 8 games, drew 2 games, lost 1 game, achieved 9 points, equal to player Yuan Shunzhe (China) but ranked second due to losing the secondary index.

Before attending the world tournament, Hoang Quan won the U11 men's group at the national youth tournament.

Apart from Hoang Quan's medal, the remaining players of the Vietnamese youth chess team were not in the medal group, including Vu Nhat Khuong ranked 27th in the U10 men's category, Nguyen Quang Anh ranked 28th in the U12 men's category, Vu Thanh An ranked 35th in the U8 men's category, Tran Duong Hoang Ngan ranked 60th in the U12 women's category and Trinh Nguyen Lam ranked 105th in the U12 men's category.

The 2025 World Youth Chess Championship was held from September 18 to October 1, attracting a large number of participants.

Of which, the U8 men's group has 145 players, the U10 men's group has 150 players, the U12 men's group has 150 players and the U12 women's group has 121 players.
