The program was organized by the Social Work Team of Saigon General Hospital in coordination with the Social Work Department of Gia Dinh People's Hospital in the lobby of the Examination Department.
In a gentle, intimate space, the artists performed familiar medleys such as Song from a Secret Garden, Serenade (Schubert), Green Fields, Top of the World, Can't Help Falling in Love, Beautiful Saigon, Hello Vietnam.
On the occasion of Mid-Autumn Festival, the program also brings a bustling atmosphere with children's songs such as: August Lantern Procession, Thung Thinh Thung Thinh... recalling childhood memories and bringing joy to both adults and children.
Many patients, relatives and foreign tourists who came to the hospital for examination also expressed their excitement and shared many positive feelings about the program. Ms. Nguyen Thi Lieu (80 years old, living in Ben Thanh ward) said that she has been coming to Saigon General Hospital for examination for many years. “Today, when the hospital organized a music program, the melodies made me feel like I was returning to my childhood. I was really touched, listening to the music made me feel much better. I hope the program will continue to be maintained and spread, so that many other patients can also relax and feel at peace like me,” Ms. Tran Thi Lieu emotionally shared.
Mr. Tran Van Vien (45 years old, living in Nguyen Cu Trinh ward) said that familiar melodies helped him relax, forget the feeling of fatigue due to illness, and instead feel warmer, more optimistic and love life more.
Trevor, a tourist from Queensland (Australia), shared that in Australia, some hospitals used to have pianos, but few people played them, and patients were not interested. He was impressed when he learned that the music program here was organized by volunteers, especially by the hospital staff.
Seeing the doctors playing the piano in the hospital lobby, Trevor's wife exclaimed: "This is a great idea to help patients calm down, reduce anxiety, feel more comfortable and somewhat forget about their illness." She said that in Australia there is no such model.
Carrying the message of "healing with music", the program featured performances by the volunteer music group "Kuân Cello and friends", including artists Ho Phuoc Hieu, Vu Sinh Nhat Hy, Bui Thi Thien Huong, Nguyen Ngoc Thien Ngan, Mai Tung Lam with many musical instruments such as guitar, violin, flute (electronic flute), cello and saxophone.
Sharing at the event, specialist doctor Phan Quoc Linh, Head of Traditional Medicine Department, Saigon General Hospital said that for the first time, the program "White blouse melody" was deployed in coordination with the Social Work Department of Saigon General Hospital and Gia Dinh People's Hospital to bring a relaxing space, reduce stress for patients, relatives and the medical team.
This activity contributes to creating a warm and friendly atmosphere for patients when they come for examination and treatment. In the future, the two hospitals will have more meaningful cooperation programs to bring comfort and the best experience to patients.
Ms. Nguyen Ngoc Thien Ngan, leader of the group “Kuân Cello and Friends”, said that the group did not aim for a professional performance but wanted to use music to spread empathy, help patients feel shared and have more spirit to overcome the disease. According to her, when seeing the eyes and smiles of the audience, the group knew that they had done the right thing.
“White blouse melody” is expected to become a bridge between medicine and art, between medical staff and patients, contributing to spreading healing sounds. The program is expected to be held once a month at Saigon General Hospital to contribute to spreading healing sounds to many patients, helping them temporarily forget their physical pain to feel the sharing in the treatment journey.
