EDITORIAL: The more famous an artist is, the more he needs bodyguards, not just one but many, especially when it comes to ensuring safety at crowded events. Therefore, many stars do not hesitate to spend billions of dong to hire private bodyguards, and many of them stick with their clients for many years like family. They are not only healthy and quick-witted, but also responsible, dedicated, and especially capable of keeping all secrets related to the stars. VietNamNet has developed a series of articles about bodyguards of famous stars in Vietnam and the world so that readers can have a glimpse of their special work.
Tung Yuki has many years of experience in the bodyguard industry. In 1995, he opened his first security company, which has been in operation for 30 years.
His company with 2,500 employees is one of the leading units in the field of security and protection.
Bodyguard, actor Van Tung (known by his stage name Tung Yuki).
The company's strength is protecting individuals, groups, and programs with many domestic and foreign stars.
Most recently, Tung Yuki's company provided security for the concert series of Anh trai tha ngan thorns with a scale of tens of thousands of spectators each night.
The person who holds the "secret history" of the stars
Not only is he My Tam's "living shield", Tung Yuki has also taken on the task of protecting many famous international stars such as: Louis Koo, Pham Van Phuong, Bi Rain, Han Ga In, SNSD group, So Ji Sub, Jang Dong Gun, CL (2NE1), BlackPink group... when they come to Vietnam.
At every event, he always maintains a professional attitude, both protecting the artists and avoiding creating tension for the surrounding audience.
According to Tung Yuki, Vietnam currently has no formal training school for bodyguards, everything comes from "passing down the profession", the older generation teaches the next generation their experience.
The process of selecting bodyguards for artists is quite strict, not everyone is suitable for this job. In a group of 10 bodyguards, only 1-2 most suitable people are chosen.
In addition to physical standards such as height, weight and health, the selected person must be professionally trained, well-mannered and refined in every action.
Most bodyguards need to be physically fit and know at least one martial art. They must maintain a good emotional state throughout their work.
Calmness is a top priority because this forms the habit of observing, handling situations and having a way to react quickly to incidents and dangers that artists encounter.
Tung Yuki accompanied international stars when they came to Vietnam.
Bodyguard work is characterized by following celebrities closely regardless of time and place. Many people jokingly say that this is a profession that specializes in keeping the "deep palace secrets" and secrets of the stars.
Therefore, it is essential to keep customers' private information confidential and not reveal sensitive details that could affect their personal or work life.
"No artist likes their bodyguard to be nosy and gossipy, which can easily create risks," Tung Yuki said.
Bodyguards need to know 'when to stop' and not go too far with artists.
For many years, Tung Yuki has run the company with the criteria of putting work culture first.
He prioritizes choosing people with good personalities, then personally guides them because he believes that ethics in the profession is the most important factor.
“This job depends on style and emotions. If someone with a gangster nature does this job, it will be very dangerous. My criteria for doing this job is not how much money I can make, but more importantly, how to make people respect the work of bodyguards and security,” he said.
Tung Yuki always accompanies and protects My Tam in big and small events.
Occasionally, seeing news or images of bodyguards fighting and brawling reflected in newspapers and social networks, he sends them to his staff to read so they can learn from their mistakes and avoid making the same mistakes.
Some unintentional actions such as smoking and spitting are also not allowed to avoid affecting the star's image.
Besides, bodyguards need to have "stops" during the working process, in direct contact with the artist.
In crowded events, they can stay close to protect the stars, but when returning to private space, each person needs to be aware not to go too far.
Tung Yuki shared that when working with My Tam after each show, he always took her back to the hotel to rest. However, he only took her to the lobby, hallway or stopped in front of her room door, not allowing himself to enter her living space.
"When I make sure Tam is safe or has an assistant nearby, I immediately leave. This ensures that I preserve the image of both myself and her.
There are details or actions, even if they are unintentional, but if they are filmed, they can be woven into countless scandalous stories," he said.
Bodyguard fees are usually paid according to a contract between the two parties with related confidentiality provisions.
In addition, when working with international stars, the remuneration is calculated in dollars. Higher income requires responsibility, work pressure with a series of strict requirements from the crew for bodyguards.
Tung Yuki thinks that the current income of a bodyguard is not high, not commensurate with the effort put in.
Most artists today often hire bodyguards by the hour. When they go to events, shows, crowded places… they will be guaranteed security during the entire activity.
For artists who are on long tours, bodyguard salaries will increase due to travel and hotel expenses, depending on the agreement.
However, Tung Yuki believes that the current salary for bodyguards is not too high, if not low compared to international standards. This is something that has troubled him for many years.
Compared to 10 years ago, Tung Yuki sees the security guard profession as seriously degraded. According to him, the reason is that units focus on profit and ignore quality, leading to easy selection, causing many unfortunate incidents during the work process.
“In the past, there were only 4 big security companies, including my company and 3 others in the North and South, but now there are nearly 500 different companies.
This leads to competition and corruption in the profession, so the word "bodyguard" is abused a lot," he said.
