Outstanding diplomat Vu Khoan in the memory of American scholars

Speaking to a VNA reporter in the US, Dr. Frances Zwenig - former Senior Director of the US-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Business Council and former Assistant and Chief of Staff to Senator John Kerry - recalled memories of the time working with former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan to improve and promote bilateral relations.

According to Dr. Frances Zwenig, former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan was an outstanding diplomat who contributed a lot to Vietnam, especially at a time when Vietnam and the US were working to improve and move bilateral relations from caution to mutual trust. She said: “Whenever the two sides had problems, former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan was the one who understood better than anyone what needed to be done, where needed to go, to resolve the problem.”

Expressing her honor to know and have had many opportunities to collaborate with former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan, Dr. Frances Zwenig assessed him as a diplomat with stature, charismatic style and worthy of being one of the best of his time. According to her, the former Deputy Prime Minister was a person with a broad vision and was very perceptive in an extremely complex world .

On this occasion, Dr. Frances Zwenig shared with the VNA reporter in the US a souvenir that she always treasures. It is a photo of the members of the US-ASEAN Business Council delegation, including former Deputy Prime Minister Vu Khoan and herself. She said that this photo is currently hanging in her office and she looks at it almost every day.

Dr. Frances Zwenig has many years of experience in the US Congress. She has served as Assistant and Chief of Staff to Senator John Kerry; Staff Director of the US Senate Committee on Prisoner of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA); Vice President of Legal Affairs, US-Vietnam Trade Council and Senior Director of the US-ASEAN Business Council.
