The ceremony to receive the right to use and manage this famous work of musician Pham Tuyen was held by Nhan Dan newspaper on the afternoon of August 29.
The people's song is given back to the people
Mr. Le Quoc Minh - editor-in-chief of Nhan Dan newspaper - said the decision to give the right to manage and use the song to Nhan Dan newspaper has a deeply symbolic meaning: giving it back to the community through a public institution representing the voice of the people.
The acceptance of Nhan Dan newspaper is therefore not only a legal procedure, but also a promise to preserve and promote values.
From here, Nhan Dan newspaper will ensure that the song is sung in the right place, at the right time, and in the right way; respecting the original and historical context; and at the same time opening up ways to introduce it to young audiences.
Written on the night of April 28, 1975 under the yellow light at the top of the stairs of the Khuong Thuong apartment building, with only a pencil and a small piece of paper, the song was broadcast at 5:05 p.m. on April 30, 1975 on the Voice of Vietnam radio , right after the news of the historic victory.
On May 2, 1975, Nhan Dan newspaper printed the entire song, opening the song's journey from the newspaper to life: into schoolyards, homes, celebrations; crossing borders to many friendly countries.
And now Nhan Dan newspaper once again has a relationship with a song that has been so familiar to Vietnamese people for the past 50 years.
As if Uncle Ho was there on the day of great victory, it was sung the most.
Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online, Ms. Pham Hong Tuyen - daughter of musician Pham Tuyen - said that the family's donation of the copyright of the song "Like having Uncle Ho on the great victory day " is with the wish to give it to the country and the community through Nhan Dan newspaper.
From now on, the newspaper will manage to ensure that the use of songs is for the benefit of the people, serving the Fatherland, and not for commercial purposes.
"My father always kept in mind that music only truly lives when it belongs to the community," said Ms. Tuyen. She added that her father received royalties "relatively and regularly." However, royalties mainly came from other songs.
As for the song "As if with Uncle Ho on the great victory day", the family often receives requests for copyright exemption for educational , propaganda, and non-commercial purposes.
