According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lang Son province, the reservoir capacity of Bac Khe hydropower plant (in Kim Dong commune, old Trang Dinh district, now Tan Tien commune, Lang Son province) is about 4 million m3 of water.
Since the morning of October 7, the leaders of Tan Tien commune have inspected and discovered cracks on the reservoir wall of Bac Khe hydroelectric reservoir. Immediately, the authorities have organized the evacuation of people and their properties to safe places to avoid flooding when the cracks break.
Currently, the People's Committee of Lang Son province has arranged a working delegation led by Mr. Doan Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lang Son province to go to the scene to direct the work of overcoming the incident of the Bac Khe hydropower dam collapse.
Comrade Doan Thanh Son, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lang Son province, was present at communes in Trang Dinh district (old) to inspect and urge rescue and flood prevention work.
According to the leader of Lang Son province, the authorities are currently focusing on the broken dam area. When the water recedes, they will immediately fix the broken section using safety measures.
Due to the impact of storm No. 11 (storm Matmo), from the morning of October 6 to October 7, Lang Son province experienced moderate to heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain, causing flooding in many communes and wards. However, Lang Son province has not yet recorded any human casualties.
