According to households raising grouper goby in Go Cong Dong hamlet, Nguyen Viet Khai commune, Phu Tan district ( Ca Mau province), people used to take advantage of abandoned industrial shrimp farming ponds to raise grouper goby.

However, raising grouper in earthen ponds has the limitation that the fish grow slowly and are susceptible to disease if raised repeatedly in many batches. Therefore, people choose the method of raising orchids in shrimp ponds.

Or if raised in large quantities in earthen ponds, when the grouper is 300-500 grams large, it will be released into cages, in shrimp ponds, and combined with feeding with miscellaneous fish.

Households without land for production raise grouper in cages along rivers, near estuaries with tidal currents and alluvium.

The grouper farming model helps many households in Nguyen Viet Khai commune in particular and households in coastal and mangrove areas in the province in general to have additional income and stabilize their lives.

Mr. Lam Van Kia has 2 hectares of land. In addition to the income from the shrimp farm of about 40 million VND/year, Mr. Kia renovated a 200 m2 earthen pond, releasing 150 grouper fish.

When the grouper fish is 300 grams, it is released into a square cage. After about 5 months of raising, it is harvested, bringing in an additional income of about 40 million VND.

Five years ago, Mr. Ho Van Hau tried raising grouper in an earthen pond, and it was effective. However, after a few crops, the fish were susceptible to disease and grew slowly.

Currently, he raises 2 riverside cages: 2 large cages about 6 m2/100 fry/cage and 1 smaller cage to raise young fish for the next crop; after 6-8 months of raising, it is harvested.

Mr. Ho Van Hau has no land for production, so he takes advantage of raising grouper in cages along the river. From here, with his will to rise up, he helps his family escape poverty and stabilize their lives.

Mr. Ho Van Hau and his wife, Ms. Tran Thi Mai Thi, have now escaped poverty, partly thanks to the income from raising grouper fish in cages.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan and his wife have 5.2 hectares of shrimp, crab, blood cockles and grouper farming, earning about 150 million VND/year, of which the income from grouper is about 30 million VND.
