Hot: Korean Football Federation sues people who spread fake news, defends coach Park Hang-seo

The Korea Football Association (KFA) said it has taken legal action against fake news that has affected the reputation of players and football officials in the country, including former coach of the Vietnamese national team Park Hang-seo.

According to Osen , since the beginning of 2025, the KFA has received many reports of fabricated statements by officials and players of the Korean national team. The KFA has also expressed deep concern about the "persistent fake news" being posted, and the organization believes that this information mainly appears through social networks. Many Koreans even believe that these rumors are true and are widely shared. However, the KFA did not sue because the information was completely false.

However, in recent months, the fake news has continued to grow and the KFA has decided to take action. “The KFA has concluded that the continued emergence of non-existent internal conflicts, false statements by national team officials, and personal attacks on the coach and the KFA President may constitute excessive defamation,” Osen wrote.

The Korean newspaper also mentioned that former coach of the Vietnamese national team Park Hang-seo had his reputation affected by inaccurate rumors: “The KFA has decided not to take action until unreasonable statements such as a certain organization “appointing Park Hang-seo as coach” and “FIFA’s disciplinary action against the Korean national team” continue to spread widely. The KFA assessed that the number of complaints from fans has skyrocketed, forcing them to change their steps.”

Coach Park Hang-seo is currently the Vice President of KFA, in charge of supporting the national team. In addition, in Vietnam, he is also an advisor at the Bac Ninh First Division Club and built a youth football academy. After leaving the Vietnam national team in January 2023, Coach Park Hang-seo has not led any other team. Recently, information such as him receiving invitations from Korea, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and India has continuously appeared.

KFA has filed a lawsuit

Notably, today (October 22), the KFA representative said that they have filed a lawsuit with the Seoul Court. The KFA affirmed that it will no longer ignore the activities of fabricating and spreading false information maliciously against the Korean team and KFA officials.

Yonhap newspaper commented: “This decision was made based on internal judgment. The KFA needs to take a proactive response to warn about the behavior of “social media trolls. We must prioritize smooth support for the national team and restore the trust of football fans ahead of the 2026 World Cup.”

Meanwhile, KFA Legal Affairs Director Kim Yun-ju said: “We have requested legal authorities to disclose information to identify the parties involved and prosecute them. It is never right to incite public opinion with false and unfounded information and to seek personal gain. The KFA will continue to respond strongly and continuously to ensure that the national team and KFA members are protected from malicious rumors. The KFA wants to ensure that all of us will always focus on the development of Korean football.”
