Meritorious Artist, Doctor Bui Nhu Lai is the new Principal of Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema.

The position of Principal of Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema was awarded to Meritorious Artist Bui Nhu Lai on September 5 with special significance, associated with the opening of the new school year.

In his speech assigning tasks to the new Principal Bui Nhu Lai, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong affirmed that the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema is a key training unit in the arts sector, with many generations of artists, directors, cameramen, screenwriters... contributing to affirming the position of Vietnamese cinema and theatre. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has, is and will continue to invest so that the school can maintain its pioneering position and reach the regional level.

Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong emphasized that the position of Principal is not only a title but also a great responsibility, associated with the task of training high-quality human resources for cinema, theater and cultural and artistic sectors, meeting the requirements of national development. He believes that with the consensus of the collective, the new Principal will develop the school strongly, integrate internationally, and at the same time preserve and spread traditional cultural values.

At the ceremony, the new Principal Bui Nhu Lai expressed his honor and pride at being entrusted with the new responsibility by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Meritorious Artist Bui Nhu Lai said that this is also a heavy responsibility, urging him to constantly strive to meet expectations.

The new Principal called for the joint efforts and consensus of the school to fulfill the mission of training artistic human resources with both good personality and professional skills, meeting the requirements of national development; at the same time, striving to develop the school further, reaching regional and international levels, contributing to preserving, promoting and spreading traditional artistic values, worthy of a culture rich in national identity.

Meritorious Artist, Doctor Bui Nhu Lai was born in 1979, comes from a working-class family. He graduated with a degree in Drama Acting, then studied Stage Directing at the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema and successfully defended his PhD thesis in Art Studies.

On stage, he was an actor and director of the Youth Theater, taking on the roles of Head of the Physical Drama Troupe and Head of Drama Troupe 1.

Since 2019, he returned to Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema to teach, research and hold the positions of Deputy Head of Faculty, Head of Theatre Faculty, and Vice Principal.

Meritorious Artist Bui Nhu Lai is the director of many award-winning plays: "Rebirth" - Outstanding Creative Director Award (2020) and Gold Medal at the Festival of Stage Arts on the Image of the People's Public Security Soldier; "To the Other Shore" - Gold Medal at the International Festival of Experimental Theater (2022); "Eidip the King" - Silver Medal at the same festival; "Like a Falling Rain" (2024) - won many awards at the Asian Art Schools Theater Festival.

Besides the stage, he also participates in cinema and television with impressive roles in "Under the tree of happiness" (2023) and "My father, the one who stayed" (2025)...
