Burst into tears when knowing the results

Last Friday, Kieu Anh, a student at the Foreign Language High School (under Hanoi National University) learned that her SAT score was 1,600/1,600.

At that moment, Kieu Anh burst into tears because she was so surprised. She immediately called her parents, some teachers and her classmates to tell them the news.

It is known that this is the result after 3 consecutive exams of Kieu Anh, each exam is about 20 days apart. On the first exam, she got a score of 1,430/1,600.

"When I entered the exam room, I was very nervous. I told myself that this exam was mainly for experience, to try to improve and get used to the questions. At that time, because I was not familiar with the format of the questions and was not confident in how to do them, I was quite flustered and could not develop my abilities," the female student recalled.

On the second test, she got 1,480/1,600. This time, the student did not get the desired result because she was quite subjective and reduced the time she spent studying math.

Learning from experience, on the third exam, the female student determined to study regularly, know her weaknesses and strengths to overcome them.

With calmness, confidence, and solid test-taking, she achieved the maximum SAT score of 1,600/1,600, in the top 1% of the world . “When I took the test, I only thought that I would probably get a higher score than the other two times, not daring to think of getting a perfect score. The result made me unable to control my emotions and burst into tears,” Kieu Anh recalled.

According to the female student, the reason she chose to take the SAT was because of the introduction and research of her parents and teachers. In particular, she realized that the SAT is an important factor in achieving her dream of studying abroad in economically developed countries in Europe or Australia.

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Kieu Anh said that in 7th grade she was shocked when she received a score of 7 in the final English exam, the lowest score ever because she always got above 9 in the other subjects.

From that time on, the little student devoted herself to learning English. In 8th grade, Kieu Anh became an excellent English student in her class. With the teacher's guidance, she took the exam to join the English team and passed both the English and math teams. At the end of 8th grade, Kieu Anh studied for the entrance exam to the English specialized class at the Foreign Language Specialized High School.

Kieu Anh's academic results last year were highly appreciated with an average score of 9.4/10, especially in English she achieved an average score of 9.6.

Doing many exercises does not necessarily mean "improving"

The female student only started studying for the SAT at the end of April. Compared to the IELTS, she found the SAT much more difficult to prepare for. However, she set a goal of achieving a score of 1,530 because this is the minimum threshold to achieve her dream of studying abroad.

“The first time I read the test, there were many passages I didn’t understand. To improve, for each wrong question, I looked up important, key words to understand the main content and studied carefully,” Kieu Anh said.

According to the female student, at first she thought that she just needed to "plow" a lot of questions to improve. She worked hard on the questions continuously, and every time she made a mistake, she just looked back at the answer and moved on to the next question.

However, no matter how much I did, the results did not improve. Realizing that my learning method was ineffective, I started to change: I studied more slowly and did each lesson with certainty. For each lesson, I carefully checked for errors, found the cause, wrote it down in my notebook, and then wrote down specific solutions.

Before doing a new test, I always reread my old mistakes to avoid repeating them. Thanks to this method, my score has improved significantly in a short time.

Kieu Anh believes that the mistake some candidates make when studying for and taking the SAT is to focus on the number of questions because they think that the more questions they do, the more confident they will be. But her secret is to do the questions slowly and steadily, learning from mistakes so that they won't make the same mistakes again.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Ha, homeroom teacher of class 12A1, Foreign Language Specialized High School, said that she was very happy because within 3 years, she received SAT results of students with 1,600/1,600 twice. A former student of hers also achieved this score 3 years ago, which is what makes her most proud.

According to Ms. Ha, Kieu Anh is a studious, hard-working student with aspirations and dreams of studying abroad. That is why, from the beginning, she has made a careful investment in learning English.

Not only English, in many other subjects, Kieu Anh studies very well, is conscientious and always gets excellent scores on tests.

“With this score, the future ahead is opening up more opportunities for Kieu Anh. You have the right to dream bigger and I hope you can get into the university of your dreams,” Ms. Ha shared.

The SAT is a standardized test, commonly used by universities around the world for admission. According to the College Board, the organization that owns the test, about two million students worldwide take the SAT each year. Those with a score of 1,530 or higher are in the top 1% of the world.
