Stabilizing the supply of essential goods for the capital's people in all circumstances is the key solution that the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade is promoting to implement.

Diverse solutions to stabilize supply and prices

At the Gala celebrating 15 years of the Industry and Trade sector implementing the Campaign for Vietnamese People to Prioritize Using Vietnamese Goods, organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on the morning of November 12 in Hanoi, Ms. Nguyen Kieu Oanh - Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade said that in recent times, Hanoi has promoted market stabilization and sustainable consumption, ensuring a stable supply of essential goods in all circumstances. These synchronous solutions not only support businesses and people but also aim to build a green, sustainable economy for the Capital.

Specifically, in recent years, Hanoi has continuously implemented many synchronous solutions to stabilize the market of essential goods and promote sustainable production and consumption. These policies not only support businesses and consumers in the capital but also play an important role in maintaining economic and social stability, especially during periods of market fluctuations such as Tet holidays, when the Covid-19 epidemic breaks out or during the rainy season. Promoting domestic resources, raising awareness of using Vietnamese goods, and building a stable supply chain have created a sustainable foundation for Hanoi to develop in the future.

In addition, Ms. Nguyen Kieu Oanh said that to cope with unexpected market fluctuations, Hanoi always proactively assesses and monitors the supply and demand of essential goods. Every year, the Department of Industry and Trade coordinates with relevant departments and branches to develop a market stabilization plan, helping businesses prepare reserves of goods, ensuring continuous supply, especially during peak times.

Since 2010, the market stabilization program has attracted many participating units and the number of participating enterprises has been increasing. Initially, there were only 10 participating units, but from 2020 to now, there have been about 30 units registering each year. In particular, during the Covid-19 pandemic and natural disasters, enterprises participating in the stabilization program have increased their stockpiled goods from 1.5 to 3 times compared to normal. The quantity of essential goods is also maintained at stable prices at points of sale, creating favorable conditions for people to shop without worrying about sudden price increases.

Strengthening supply-demand connection

In order to ensure a diverse and quality supply of goods, Hanoi has expanded cooperation with provinces and cities through many trade promotion and trade connection activities. This not only helps bring high-quality products from regions to the capital but also creates a stable distribution channel, ensuring that people always have essential goods available.

Since 2020, Hanoi's market stabilization program has expanded its scope of participation, including production units in other provinces and cities. Thanks to that, agricultural products and food from regions such as OCOP products and local specialties have been supplied to the Hanoi market, contributing to improving product quality and meeting the diverse consumption needs of the capital's people.

In addition, Hanoi also organizes fairs and trade promotion programs to connect local businesses with production and business units in other localities. These activities not only support businesses to exploit more stable sources of goods but also help expand the consumption market for agricultural products, food, and typical products of the provinces and cities.

Along with the above solutions, Hanoi always focuses on expanding the distribution system to bring essential goods, especially Vietnamese goods, closer to the people, meeting the shopping needs of the capital's residents in all circumstances. In 2010, the city had about 397 essential points of sale; however, from 2020 to now, the number of points of sale has increased to more than 12,000, ensuring coverage across all districts, counties and residential areas.

In particular, in 2021, when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out strongly, the number of essential sales points was increased by the city to 20,000 points. These points of sale not only help people access essential goods easily but also support isolated and locked-down areas to have enough food and necessary supplies.

Increasing the number of distribution points helps to reduce local shortages and stabilize prices, especially during holidays or natural disasters. Businesses participating in the market stabilization program have also maintained stable prices at their points of sale, helping people feel secure when shopping.
