Peru declares state of emergency due to raging forest fires

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên19/09/2024

Recent wildfires have burned through large swaths of farmland in Peru's Andes and Amazon regions, killing at least 16 people, Reuters reported.

According to data from Peru's Ministry of the Environment, forest fires are common in Peru from August to November, mainly caused by burning dry grasslands to expand agricultural land and land traffickers. President Boluarte said Peru had recorded 238 forest fires across most of the country, and about 80% of them were "controlled." Boluarte also noted that the forest fires were a result of lack of rain due to climate change.
