Funding from the North Central Region Emission Reduction Payment Agreement (ERPA) has become a strong driving force for forest protection and development in Nghe An . It helps encourage people to actively participate in forest protection and reduce violations of forestry laws.
At the same time, people participating in patrolling and protecting forests receive money from the community with an agreement with the forest owner, which will reduce pressure on specialized forest protection officers; contributing to making the bond between forest owners, organizations, local authorities and people increasingly closer and stronger.
Along with direct support for forest protection, this funding source has also supported the livelihoods of residential communities. In addition, the construction of public works for communities living near forests has contributed to the completion of the goal of building new rural areas, promoting the development of community tourism models.
