Coach Kluivert's reaction after being fired by the Indonesian Football Federation

(Dan Tri) - After having his contract terminated early by the Indonesian Football Federation (IFF), coach Kluivert spoke out to express his deep disappointment and regret for not being able to help the Indonesian team win a ticket to the 2026 World Cup.

On the afternoon of October 16, the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) announced that coach Kluivert had been fired two years earlier than the end of his contract. The reason was that he could not help the team win a ticket to the 2026 World Cup after two defeats against Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

After his contract with PSSI was terminated early, coach Patrick Kluivert spoke out on his personal Instagram page. He shared: “I am extremely disappointed and regretful that I could not lead the Indonesian team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. However, I am still proud of what we have built together.”

Despite being fired, Coach Kluivert still maintains a respectful and grateful attitude towards his colleagues. He sent his thanks to the fans, players, coaching staff and PSSI President Erick Thohir for their efforts and support during the past time.

“I want to thank the fans, the players, my team and Mr. Erick Thohir for this unforgettable journey,” the Dutch strategist added.

Coach Kluivert was appointed by PSSI on January 8, 2025, just two days after Shin Tae Yong was fired. He was introduced at a press conference on January 12 in Jakarta, with a contract lasting until 2027 with an option to extend for another two years. In addition to Coach Kluivert, there are two assistants from his countrymen, Alex Pastoor and Denny Landzaat.

Under the leadership of coach Kluivert, the Indonesian team played a total of 8 matches, including 6 matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. However, the results were not as expected when the team from the archipelago only won 2 and lost 4 (winning rate 33.33%) in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

After parting ways with coach Kluivert, PSSI will urgently look for a new coach. According to Indonesian media, it seems that PSSI President Erick Thohir still prioritizes looking for a coach from Europe to lead Indonesia's naturalized stars.
