Developing sustainable agricultural, forestry and green tourism livelihood models

Consultation workshop on project development to promote the development of sustainable agricultural and forestry livelihood models and green tourism from community forest environmental service fees in Ngoc Chien commune.

Attending the workshop were comrade Nguyen Thanh Cong, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; leaders of a number of provincial departments; Tay Bac University and Ngoc Chien commune.

Leaders of the Provincial Forest Protection and Development Fund presented the project.

At the workshop, the following groups of activities were presented: Raising awareness of people in Ngoc Chien commune on forest protection and management, ecological environment protection and biodiversity conservation; training on techniques for building economic development models. Building village covenants and conventions on forest protection and development associated with management, effectively using forest environmental service fees for forest management and protection and improving people's lives in accordance with the socio -economic conditions of each locality. Building a model for livelihood development adapting to climate change and sustainable green tourism from effectively using forest environmental service fees to increase people's income and improve the ecological environment. Building a network for learning/sharing experiences among communities with community forests in Son La; promoting agricultural products; spreading/replicating initiatives in the province and sharing with provinces in the National Community Forest Reserve network...

The project duration is 17 months, from November 2025 to March 2027, with a total budget of about more than 2.3 billion VND, of which more than 1.1 billion VND is funded by the GEF SGP Program and 1.2 billion VND is matched from other sources such as: Forest environmental service fees and provincial budget, community contributions.

Based on these groups of activities, delegates discussed, consulted, analyzed, evaluated and proposed contents that need to be researched, supplemented, creating a breakthrough to promote the development of sustainable agricultural and forestry livelihood models and green tourism from forest environmental service fees of the community in Ngoc Chien commune.

Speaking at the workshop, comrade Nguyen Thanh Cong emphasized: Ngoc Chien is the second-ranked commune in the province in terms of forest environmental service payments and has effectively used forest environmental service payments to create, develop and build infrastructure to serve economic development. Ngoc Chien also has great potential to develop ecotourism, resorts and community tourism associated with forest protection. He hopes that project implementing units will continue to expand the scope of research related to biodiversity conservation and traditional cultural conservation; the characteristics of Ngoc Chien commune; promote the development of agricultural and forestry livelihood models, sustainable green tourism from the community's forest environmental service payments. Thereby, helping Ngoc Chien commune to develop more and more in the coming time.
