The iDEA (Innovation, Development, and Empowerment in Asia) project is an initiative of AstraZeneca in the Asia region, implemented in 7 countries including India, Taiwan, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines.
The project aims to create equal learning and development opportunities for students in the pharmaceutical and public health sectors. The iDEA 2025 project is themed "Solving the Challenge of Rare Diseases" - a unique medical field with many challenges in diagnosis, treatment and awareness raising in Vietnam. The competing teams are required to develop a plan to improve community education on rare diseases, focusing on three main pillars: building a patient support network, promoting scientific and systemic interventions and implementing diverse advocacy and outreach campaigns.
After 3 months of implementation with more than 300 students submitting their entries, 6 talented teams of the national finals were present at AstraZeneca Vietnam to participate in the national finals at the end of August 2025. With innovative approaches and problem-solving methods through serious research, the 3 highest-ranked teams were HPLC, Senium and Raredi, in which the HPLC team with 4 students from Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Hanoi Medical University won the first prize in Vietnam.
The winning teams will receive internship opportunities at AstraZeneca Vietnam, mentored by senior leaders. In particular, the first prize winning team will have the opportunity to participate in the Asia Regional Finals in September 2025.
Participating in the competition with a challenging topic in Vietnam as well as in the world , which is rare disease, the young people from the Vietnamese champion team - HPLC said that they were very surprised because this is a super new topic. However, when going into the analysis, they realized something extremely important and reasonable: although it is a "rare disease", "raising public awareness" is even more necessary so that patients receive more attention and access to advanced treatment methods.
The project attracted more than 300 students to register, of which more than 90% came from medical and pharmaceutical universities in Vietnam. This shows the attraction of the program and the interest of young people in the field of health care. The success of the program affirms that AstraZeneca Vietnam is not only a pioneer in nurturing young talent but also investing in creating a sustainable healthcare ecosystem.
