At the Book Fair, the Vietnamese publishing industry participated in the seminar “From Bangkok to Manila: Explore Southeast Asian Children's Book Markets” held on the Asian stage. Speaking at the seminar, the representative of Vietnam, Ms. Vu Thi Quynh Lien - Deputy Director, Editor-in-Chief of Kim Dong Publishing House, shared about the opportunities in the Southeast Asian market in general and Vietnam in particular, affirming the potential of the region as a unique traditional cultural factor along with a large children's book market.

In Vietnam alone, there are nearly 20 million children under 15 years old, who are a subject of great concern to society. Therefore, the responsibility of publishing units is to bring richness and diversity in both quantity and content, and topics of publications.

The books of Kim Dong Publishing House that are copyrighted internationally often have global themes but still contain strong Vietnamese cultural elements, such as "Wild Chang", "My Dad is a Runner", "Put the Phone Down"...

Representatives from the region also shared the reality that sometimes Southeast Asian publishing units forget their local partners, only looking to the European and American markets to buy copyrights. Through this discussion, units have the opportunity to better understand the book market in the ASEAN region.

The Malaysian representative, Sheikh Faisal Sheikh Mansor, proposed specific forms of cooperation, such as the possibility of a lyricist from one country collaborating with an illustrator from another country. Malaysia also has plans to introduce Southeast Asian books into its library system.

Philippine representative, Ms. Frances Ong shared about the growth of home schooling books in this market.

As for Indonesia, Gramedia Publishing House sees potential in picture books for young unmarried people, as this group of readers seeks to buy and read children's picture books as a healing joy in their busy lives.

The seminar provided new insights into the Southeast Asian publishing market and opened up opportunities for future cooperation between countries in the region.
